Awesome!  Just yesterday or the day before, a bus-sized asteroid buzzed the earth at about 23k miles.

Yeah hope some CCTV somewhere got it on video....I seem to be the further east report ( in NC ).....I am sure there were plenty of folks that saw it that dont know this site exist to report these things..

The last month of meteorological Summer was much like the other 2
months. It remained hot with temperatures above normal and rainfall
below normal at many locations. It was the only month this Summer
that the mercury did not climb to the century mark at both Columbia
and Augusta. The highest temperature for the month at Augusta was 98
degrees on the 18th, 27th and 28th. The highest temperature at
Columbia was 97 degrees on the 17th, 26th and 27th. The record
string of minimum temperatures of 70 degrees or higher at Columbia
finally came to an end on August the 25th. The string lasted for 65
days beginning on June 20th. The old record was 54 days in 2010 and
1955.


Here are the top 5 most consecutive days of 70 degrees or higher for
minimum temperatures and the day the string ended:

1. 65 days...August 24th, 2016
2. 54 days...August 29th, 2010 and August 25th, 1955
4. 51 days...August 26th, 1934
5. 47 days...August 12th, 1991

degrees above the normal of 80.8 degrees.

It was the 3rd warmest August on record at Columbia. Here are the
top 5 warmest August years:

EVENTS FOR August 2016:

August 1st through the 7th...A slow moving back door cold front settled
southward toward the area before stalling near the area for several days.
This produced strong to severe thunderstorms along with locally heavy
rain across the area for several days. The most active day was August the
1st. On the 1st...heavy rain fell across the Midlands producing flooding
along Rocky Branch Creek along with numerous washouts and flooding of
roadways across the Midlands. The stream gage along Rocky Branch Creek at
Whaley and Main Streets crested at 12.04 feet at 915 pm. This was the 3rd
highest crest along Rocky Branch Creek at Whaley and Main since the gage
was installed in July 2007. The two previous higher crest occurred on
September 25, 2011 when the gage crested at 12.39 feet and the second
occurred on October 4, 2015 when the gage crested at 12.28 feet.

The severe storms downed several trees across Calhoun...Richland...
Lexington...Aiken and Newberry counties. Penny size hail was reported at
Trenholm Plaza and 5.26 inches of rain fell at Trenholm Park. Other notable
rainfall amounts were: 3.46 inches at MLK Park in 44 minutes...3.49 inches
of rainfall in 1 hour at Hamilton Owens Field and 2.91 inches of rainfall
in 1 hour at the USC rain gage.

August 18th...A weak trof moved toward the region from the northwest.
This was the focus for strong to severe thunderstorms that produced
damaging winds...hail and locally heavy rainfall. The strong winds downed
trees and power lines in Lexington and Bamberg counties. There was a
report of dime to nickel size hail along with 1.5 inches of rain near
the town of Rowesville in Orangeburg county.


August 19t...Remnants of the trof stalled across the area and was once
again the focus for strong to sever thunderstorms across the Midlands
and CSRA. The storms were slow moving and produced locally heavy rainfall.
There were reports of washed out roadways in Saluda county. The CoCoRaHS
site...SC-SL-6 (Saluda 3.5 ENE)...reported 4.25 inches of rain. The USGS
gage near Saluda recorded 2.84 inches of rainfall.

Got bored at work cause night shift sucks so I ran the rainfall numbers since its been so wet here the last 1.5 years and since Jan 1 2015 we have averaged right at 6" of rain a month for the last 20 months.....in total we have had 119.15" of rain at PGV since Jan 1 2015....and we are already several inches above the normal annual rainfall amount in 2016 with 3.5 months to go.....so even if it didn't rain another drop the rest of this year we would still end the year above normal for rainfall.......

I am watching TS Julia which isn't suppose to be a issue this far north but the latest model runs got me thinking how nuts it would be for it to actually get up here and make it rain since we don't need it but cant seem to not get it. I totally expect rain from TS Julia to end up getting us here in eastern NC.
