USCAPEWEATHERAF
GFS develops a 510dm upper level low (polar Vortex) over Ontario, Canada, the trough didn't move far enough southeast to impact SNE in a good way. But a major change in the GFS with cold air on southwest flow interesting as the arctic gets unleashed.
USCAPEWEATHERAF
Will, it would have been very interesting obs had CHH actually been part of the Climate centers in SNE.

PLus the 00z GFS is now suppressed with the major cutter, now showing a secondary low develop off the MD coastline. Better question would be why NWS BOX takes it's official readings at a site in the middle of Boston Harbor that is geographically warmest in the winter and coolest in the summer relative to it's surrounding forecast area. ACK was a first order site until it ceased in 1980 I think. The NWS had an office at the airport for several decades. There were actually 4 functioning NWS offices (weather bureau back then) at one point around 1970 in ORH, BOS, CHH, and ACK.
USCAPEWEATHERAF
Really four offices? Why so many?

Ginx snewx
I just saw the 0Z GFS and remembered one of today's analogs among many was 12/8/96 My area had about 6-8 in that. 1996 wx map, looks similar to tonight's GFS
USCAPEWEATHERAF
Steve you actually think the GFS might actually trend colder with this storm around the 8th?
