It normally looks like this: Upper pic very impressive. Lower pic shows flow about like what we saw at Waimea Falls last March. Lots of swimmers in the plunge pool, while the large sign as one approached gave details on all the nasty diseases/parasites one could get from the water. USCAPEWEATHERAF
Snow was in the air, the great roaring tempest, yet to its great position of youth and strength, was here to stay. Temperatures were quite low, like an arctic feel to the air over New England. Wind was gusty, but not near the full force it will be within a few hours. The buoy southeast of Nantucket was showing winds nearing 54mph in gusts, while on the Cape the winds were near 45mph out of the good ole northeast. Aye, a nor'easter was amongst us, and by the fury of God, was cast upon New England. Now nearing midnight eastern standard time in New England the tempest roared and roared on and on until it had no more roar. The H5 trough had strengthened to around 498dm deep of core cold air present southeast of good ole Nantucket with the surface low now occluded the surface low began meandering slowly to the east not before dumping a grand ole amount of snow on New England coastline, with areas west of the CT river near 24" and the Massachusetts coastline receiving 48" in spots. The tempest had winds roaring at peak intensity up to 95mph as the surface low had deepened to 950mb at its deepest. Boston broke its all-time record snowfall, now gauged at 40" for a single storm, while ORH came in at 45" and Plymouth around 48". Harwich, MA recorded a wind gust near 89mph, with a snow fall depth of 42". Nantucket read 24" as half of the precipitation fell as rain after the changeover, then changed back to a roaring blizzard with another 12" on top of whatever already fallen. Nantucket completely lost power as a top wind gust of 95mph was felt across the island. Finally there were reports at peak intensity of banding having thunder snow reported within them and snowfall rates reaching 7" in 55 minutes of time over Plymouth County, MA. This is one for the record books for sure. The great ole nor'easter of 2028.

Greatest SAI on record I think this year....plus the cold itself in Siberia is historic, so it should be producing good heat flux into the higher reaches of the atmosphere as anything that tries to advect from the south is going to hit a concrete dome of cold. We'll see if we end up with a huge -AO or not.
