1964 had one of the coldest first three weeks of October but a warm finish prevented that year from being colder than it was...1974 had three straight days 32 or lower in NYC and low 20's in the Poconos...Nov. 1st 1974 had a high of 81...

That would mostly effect the coastal plain and with the way septembers have been of late it would be nothing out of the ordinary. For sept is becoming a summer month it seems.

Fall doesn't start until 9/23 so most of the month is in summer anyway.   I never get the whole thing that summer ends on Labor Day.   Sept often has its share of days in the 80's.
