Probably going to need some direct or indirect help from the tropics if we are going to avoid closing out the year with another precip deficit.

2016 Precip deficits to date for local stations:

NYC...-6.74

LGA...-7.01

JFK...-5.77

ISP...-8.51

BDR...-4.19

EWR...-8.14

8" below normal here for the year thru yesterday .

Yeah, we switched to a drier pattern after that 2011 deluge. My last and only 10" event that I ever recorded  was in August 2011.

2012..2013..2015...and 2016 so far have featured below normal precip. But in the dry pattern we were able to register the 1000 year

rainfall in Islip during 2014 with most areas finishing the year with above normal precip.

I think it may be a first. Looking at Uncles weather history, the warmest overnight low in the first 9 days was 79. Unless it happened after the 10th which would be even more rare of course

Twice before and according to this chart Central Park has indeed never had an above 80 low in September

It wasn't that long ago that 80+ lows were almost unheard of in general.

Only Sept one I could find anywhere in this area is once at LGA, 81 on Sept 2 2010.

The record high min for today at LGA is 76, set last year.

the climate is changing and heat records are to be expected every year

so far July and August had days 95 or higher...If we get another one here in September it will be two years in a row that happened...1953, 1931 and 1921 had temps 95 or higher in June also...

2015...July-Sept...

2010...July-Sept...

1980...July-Sept...

1953...June-Sept...

1931...June-Sept...

1924...July-Sept...

1921...June-July...
