some implications of this storm if and most likely when it stalls off the NJ/NY coast in a few days: transportation problems. the airport hubs in the NY metro will likely be a mess from all the local turbulence for landings and takeoffs, and i wouldn't be surprised if that also spilled over to Philly and Boston hubs. The bridges and the LIE will definitely be a white-knuckle experience, especially for high-profile vehicles. And there will be a lot of water piling up on the west end of Long Island Sound as well as on the NJ shore, especially the barrier islands. so between the piling up and the waves, ferries in NJ, NY, CT, and RI probably will have to be closed temporarily at some point.

And is also still very much a warm core system while also keeping and even strengthening over land. Awesome

Alligator River Bridge in NC has a wxflow station that according to a story being reported locally had a gust to 116 mph, that bridge/location does usually get higher gust especially on NE or N winds the bridge is 3 miles long and the station is at the control house for the drawbridge in the middle of the bridge. If it gets confirmed it might be the highest gust measured in Hermine.

Soundside flooding was also particularly bad due to the angle she crossed NC at....it doesnt take a monster hurricane to get bad surge just the right angle and duration....the winds on the coast did exceed forecast quite a bit I think no one on the OBX expected the storm to produce sustain 60 mph winds with gust into the 70-80's....forecast called for peak gust to 55-60...the homes here are built to easily handle and there was no evacuations....

DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WNCN/WAVY) – The brunt of Hermine sparred Virginia Beach, but not Hatteras Island, which saw many homes and cars flooded — plus damage from a tornado.

There was near record sound-side flooding in South Frisco and Hatteras Village. There was record flooding in Frisco, according to WAVY-TV.

“It was pretty significant and unfortunately flooding waters went in people’s homes. It’s pretty bad. Lots of cars went under too. We did not anticipate it would be this bad. This flooding is as bad as Hurricane Emily was,” Dare County Board of Commissioners Allen Burrus told WAVY-TV.

“…surge, wave run-up, erosion and overwash are expected this evening near time of high tide, approximately 9:30 p.m.,” Dare County officials said in an email they titled “Impacts from Hermine more than Forecast.”

The flooding came after a tornado hit Hatteras Village early Saturday, injuring four people and causing some damage.

High winds — recorded up to 116 mph — on Alligator River Bridge also flipped a tractor-trailer, killing the driver from Randolph County.

Dare County official said they were caught off guard with flooding as the storm moved out.

“After winds shifted Saturday morning, the back side of the storm brought significant winds and greater flooding than forecast. The southern villages on Hatteras Island experienced as much as 5 feet of soundside flooding,” the county said
