That was one of the best winters we ever had and that included the early March blizzard that dropped almost 15" on me in Virginia Beach.

Inside the circle is called the circle of death for the MJO.  Not a good thing to have. 

it's really not that bad from a historical since as winter storms go in the SE. some of the biggest ones occurred when the mjo was in the COD . I know Larry has some great stats on storms that occurred while the mjo was in the COD

Was just gonna bring that up. beat me to it . Also, another point to those anomaly maps is that they are representative of "official" reporting stations of which were at that time mostly Airport and some other official nws sites. Some of their forecast areas averages were either + or - from what's depicted.
