wxeyeNH
3 hours ago, Lava Rock said: How deep are the wells? We just keep enduring these 10 day low/ no precip days but it's ridiculous at this point. Lava, I don't know how deep their wells are. There are basically 2 types of wells. The older dug wells that I guess are shallow, like 20 or 30 feet. Those are the type of wells that are going dry. The drilled wells like mine are 700 feet deep. Those are fine. It is amazing how we go week after week with no rain. The rain we get is the 1/4 to 1/2" stuff that at this point doesn't make it past the surface. I was hoping that Hurricane Matthew would get up here in a weakened fashion to get the ground water back up before the ground starts to freeze. Not to be. Last nights Euro shows no rain for New England for the next 10 days other than some brief showers with the weekend frontal passage.
Baroclinic Zone
No change in the weekly drought conditions even with the recent rains.
Sugarloaf1989
The White River was the lowest I have ever seen it, maybe ankle deep in most places. For a major drainage in Northern Vermont, it was really low. And this is a river that usually has a reliable level for paddling/tubing.
wxeyeNH
Weekly drought monitor is out. Last weekends rain helped in SE Mass. NNE which has been pretty much okay saw an expanding area of abnormally dry conditions. Perhaps some drought denting rains for the whole area in about 10 days. HIPPYVALLEY
Local news just said the official station at Westover AFB is still running 13" below normal for the year. I thought we had made up more ground than that the last 6 weeks. Quabbin is at 80% capacity but still at it's lowest since 2003.
