I had no clue JFK's dew point was so high this afternoon, it made it into the 80's.

wow thats impressive. It was an oppressive day. I expected it to be warm and humid but not overwhelmingly so.  Temps got into the low 90 with dew points well into the 70s in many cases. Heat index get close to 100 in spots. Unofficially, I reached 92 with a heat index of 102.

80+ dews is off the charts though. I want to experience that just to get an idea of how humid that would feel..if just for a few mins. I cant remember being somewhere while I was aware of an 80 degree dewpoint being recorded. Probably 78, 79 is tops I can recall.

Stroms kinda messed up my beach day at Rockaway. Got dark with moderate rain, took shelter and it absolutely poured for about 10 min with the sun peaking out, with some decent gusts too, very little lightning. Then actually saw some bolts when the storm was heading out to sea.

The dew point reports in JFK are insane. A record?

From what I know, dew point records are incomplete for many stations, especially older ones like KNYC.  I can't find any source for this information for NYC much less JFK.  Maybe someone else can.

An article about record dew points from a few years back.

Dew pt records are not well kept especially in our area.

https://www.wunderground.com/blog/weatherhistorian/record-dew-point-temperatures

" ..Record high dew points seem to be a particularly difficult record to verify. On the East Coast I can find no reference to what New York City’s highest dew point might have been. Philadelphia’s highest such was 82° on July 15, 1995 (the heat index peaked at 129°). Syracuse, New York’s record was 77° on July 4, 1999. Anecdotal on-line reports claim an 86° dew point at Virginia Beach, Virginia sometime during the summer of 1998. In general, it may be assumed that the highest dew points on record for most places east of the Great Plains would be in the 77°-85° range.."

I wonder what the water temps are right off of JFK in the bay and ocean.

extended stretch of heat and humidity on both the gfs and euro starting wednesday

Geopotential heights will be fairly high -- in fact -- higher than we've seen this season with 588-94dm extending poleward into New England. However, 850's don't look terribly impressive at least on the current proggs; most data suggests a protracted period of 18-21c air which will roughly translate to 88-94 for most areas. Classic period of HHH weather coming up. No extreme heat, but much of the I-95 corridor should add several 90 degree days over the next week. Beyond this week, a warmer than normal pattern will continue in the means as the mean trough axis shifts into the Lakes (W ridge / WAR).

Thanks for all the wedding wishes. It was an amazing day and we managed to dodge all the rain. Greetings from 36,000 feet near Denver.

Congratulations on your wedding and congrats for not being on a Delta flight this morning.

Tropical airmass arrives Wednesday with daily dewpoints of around 75 or higher.

PWATS surge past 2.00" inches with plenty of instability for daily pop up heavy to locally severe thunderstorms.

The days with more sun and less debris clouds and convection will have a shot at 95 degrees or greater.

JFK went past guidance the other day and had that 81 dewpoint. So somebody around the area may be able to get close

to 80 again especially with good moisture pooling ahead of any convection. This airmass will be as tropical as it gets

around here as moisture is getting pumped directly from the Gulf where the record SST's are for this time of year.

Awesome period coming up for summer lovers from 8/10 through 8/16 at least -- highs 90F+ and low temperatures probably in the low 80s for the most urban areas due to 75F+ dew points. Any increased buoyancy via a forcing mechanism could ignite locallized hvy convection.

Too bad it will come with humidity. But it is summer, so one should make the most of it.

that's what happened in 1896 during August...it was a little harder to deal with back then...
