Heavy downpours this evenin ,  a daily occurrence at the point. After the rain dew point is back to mid to upper 70s after spending some time in the low 70s.

Eariler I saw a tiny shower appear about the size of a basketball court. People thought it was sprinklers at first.  It grew to about  a sq block before dissapating. Oddest sight.

The bouys south of Far Rockaway and Fire Island inlet are about the warmest levels that I can remember at 80 and 79 degrees.

NY HARB ENTRANCE 1750 81 80 200/ 6/ 8 1014.3 2/ 6
20S FIRE ISLAND 1750 80 79 220/ 10/ 12 1014.1 3/ 6

Harbor buoy is 82.2 and Fire Island buoy is 81.5 last hour. We'll see how high these can go

(by the way, the "harbor Enterance Buoy" is a little misleading.  Makes it sound like its in front of the statue of liberty or something when its in fact several miles out to sea where the shipping channels start to turn into the NY Bight)

I don't know about LGA...All summer its monthly departures have been significantly higher than NYC, EWR, Islip and my station...For July they were over one degree higher than NYC and EWR, and this month they are 1.5 degrees higher on the departure...again this is on the departures, not avg temp. I think this shows a problem. BTW this seems to have started in May...prior to then the departures were similar.

That 82.2 is the highest on record I believe.  I can't find any record since 08 of it being above 27.3C, which is 81.1F.

18 90F days now here bringing me to normal or slightly above annually. 6 consecutive including today for this stretch. Definitely the most impressive week of the summer by far; this heat wave blows the late July one out of the water locally (both in terms of high and low temperatures). I've also had 5 consecutive nights > 70F (3 of those > 75) which is extremely impressive for my area. The first night of the heat wave was 69F, so it just missed.

I would think that it's mostly the winds and clouds being more favorable for warmer LGA afternoon highs and warmer overnight lows compared to Newark.

Several days this summer LGA was able to get warmer due to clouds staying more to the west when it put a lid on Newark high temperatures.

Also ideal conditions for warmer mins at LGA.

July 2011 was the reverse where Newark was the hot spot ahead of LGA.

Other times the temps and departures are closer.
