Surface temperatures are one thing, but how deep the warmth is relates to the oceanic heat content and that is what matters for the tropics. Only managed 85.8F here after a 75 low this morning. 850mb temperatures cooled off rather dramatically during the day. South NJ and coastal NJ reached the low 90s. Gorgeous summer day.
