On the Wunderground tracking maps, the one currently at 18.9N is the recurver, and the one at 32.7N (nearly 1,000 miles essentially due north of #1) is heading WSW. The current tracks have their paths crossing but the timing keeps them from getting much closer than 200 miles, though at that point one is headed at about 230° and the other 350°. One would think that a Fujiwara would bend the tracks of those two. The 3rd one is 1,500 miles to the west of the others, coming ashore in northern Vietnam, and seems too distant/weak to affect the other two. My forestry degree offers little help in understanding this.

There is another shortwave on the Euro up north of those two that just continues north up the coast.

There is another shortwave on the Euro up north of those two that just continues north up the coast. Wunderground shows three named systems in the W.Pac., with latest update at 12z. Diadnim (sp? can't read my own writing) seems way out of play, almost 35° longitude west of the others, and given the 12z position it's probably 75-100 miles inland over Vietnam by now. Lionrock at 12z was at 32.7N and 141.2E, headed WSW (255°) at 13k, while Minduile was at 18.9N and 141.0 E, moving NNW at 335/9k but progged to turn to due north, thus aimed at the 12z position of Lionrock. According to the forecasts shown, the two systems muddle along without getting too powerful (Minduile reaches Cat 1), with Lionrock turning a bit to 235° and farther toward SW. By day 4 Minduile is past 40N and about to recurve sharply after soaking Honshu, while Lionrock, a minimal TC by then, must be down toward Okinawa. At the time they share the same latitude, Lionrock is 4.5° longitude to the west. Must have been in Fujiwara action when I first noticed the oddity. The 00z tracks had them passing much closer to each other than the ones 12 hr later.
moneypitmike
What a beautiful COC morning. Got down to 58* overnight, back up to 63* now. Looks like another hot one (progged low 80's). But, at least we're done with any significant HHH for what's likely the rest of the year. Good riddance.

Did the Springfield tornado cut across mount Tom on the 141 side? I drove there today and saw the swath of trees that had come down. It wasn't fresh, but I didn't think the tornado was there.....but something big in the not too distant past had done a lot of damage

butterfish55
Ate at the Toby Keith restaurant at Patriots Place tonight...holy jeez, is that place ever set up for the perfect GTG. Dotb
Nobody awake for the tornado warning (along with the severe thunderstorms) in Middlesex County right now? Extending in a line from like Framingham northeast through Waltham/Concord for the next twenty minutes or so? Phones/TV all going crazy with alerts, etc.
FitzWx
Not too many people awake at this hour. They did mention in AFD of the possibility of a quick spin up. Does not look like much on radar?
Dotb
NECN has been carrying live coverage for the last half hour or so. They don't know if anything touched down, but sounds like plenty of areas with some damage, trees down, etc., particularly in the Route 3 area/Concord, etc. Severe thunderstorm warning still in effect for north shore, essex county, etc.
moneypitmike
Managed .64. Not much, but we weren't really in a needy situation so it's good enough. COC on the way today. Breathe it in.

OceanStWx
SPC mesoanalysis placed a weak low over NE MA around the time, and the theta-e ridge was located there too.
