FINALLY Jack potted this summer.. probably guessing only the 2nd or third time the airport has received over a half inch of rain this summer. Let the grass cutting resume..  Cut  it for the first time last evening in a month. Needless to say I won't be buying a new snowblower like we did a lawnmower that's been used less than a handful of times.

Storms with very heavy downpours have been scattered around the area for three days, but they all managed to avoid me.  Ames got 3.5" in one hour yesterday, so they really dumped in spots.  We don't need any rain, though.  Everything is quite green.  I'm still mowing the lawn like it's spring.  My August rainfall total is 7.16".

The dewpoint has been back in the mid 70s the last couple days.  I'm looking forward to the cool-down coming up tomorrow.

0.24" rain today brings us to 7.62" for Aug, and over 20" for met summer.  No rain in the forecast now till at least Sunday.  Think I'm gonna have to jump on the Hoosier drought train next summer if it in fact leaves the station.

Back-to-back summers with 20"+ of rainfall here. I'm on board the Hoosier super drought train. :bike:

Using the 4km NAM's high of 77*F and low of 66*F for tomorrow, Detroit is still a lock for the hottest Summer on record.

It's also a lock for the 2nd warmest Agust on record, surpassed only by August 1995.

CLE will end up beating the previous hottest summer on record by almost a half degree.

Tonight's midnight temperature will determine if CLE has the hottest August on record. There's been a tendency for warm overnight lows to get erased at 11:59pm EST.

Let's get a real Nina going next year and roll the dice.

The story of summer. Mediocre high temps, sky high low temps.

In the 59 days since 7/4/16, ORD has only had 8 days with below-normal low temps...and of those 8 days, 6 of them only had departures ranging from -1 to -4.

It's just more evidence of how humid this summer has been.  Usually, we'll get a 2-4 day respite from the humidity (DPs under 60) every couple of weeks...but not so this summer.

Would take some research but it would be interesting to see how this summer stacks up with others as far as number of 70+ degree dewpoint days.

temperature ranks from the East. This scorching summer was warmest in Cleveland, Detroit (?) and some areas of the East Coast. Many areas were #1, #2, or #3. Includes data from June 1 to Aug 30.

Officially, Detroit's average was 74.9*F, edging out 2012 with an average of 74.8*F.

Solid B+ Summer (with the only complaint being the lack of severe weather locally).

The seasonal extremes have been pretty impressive lately for Detroit.

We had our worst (read: snowiest) winter on record sandwiched, within the span of a few years, between our two warmest Summers on record.

Never mind the other snowy Winters and hot Summers we've had within the past 10 years.

DTX called this summer "remarkable...because it was so unremarkable" on their facebook page. This summer pales in comparison to so many other past summers for their torrid heatwaves and hot stretches....it was just so PERSISTENTLY warm and lacked any significant cool downs, a huge contrast to the last 3 summers. From a 90-degree perspective, we did finish with 21 days, well above the normal of 12 (and the first above normal summer since 2012), however 16 years had more 90F days and another 4 years were a match with 21. And mind you, this is DTW, where several days they eeked out a 90F when most everyone else (save YIP) was in the 80s. As a whole they tended to run quite high on max temps much of the summer. DET only had 16 days of 90F+....for comparison, Detroit City has had 31 years with more 90F days than 2016, and another 3 were a match with 16. It was the days on end in the mid and upper 80s that cemented this as warmest summer. Remarkable...because it was so unremarkable.
