This event reminds me so much of 08/04/15 last year where a storm with crazy lightning and thunder woke me up around 1 am in Queens. Those storms continued to blow up and slammed Long Island just before dawn with multiple microburst and lots of damage.

* UNTIL 145 AM EDT

* AT 1257 AM EDT...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WERE LOCATED ALONG A LINE
  EXTENDING FROM NEAR UPPER NEW YORK HARBOR TO 23 NM SOUTHWEST OF
  SOUTH AMBOY...MOVING EAST AT 35 KNOTS.

  HAZARD...WIND GUSTS 34 KNOTS OR GREATER.

  SOURCE...RADAR INDICATED.

  IMPACT...SMALL CRAFT COULD BE DAMAGED IN BRIEFLY HIGHER WINDS AND
           SUDDENLY HIGHER WAVES.

North shore from just about commack on west to western nassau is all green. Despite the near misses this weekend, my area is still green thanks to some rain last week. Crazy gradient on the island, once again.

Here our grass is the greenest and lushest it's been in quite awhile.  Compared this to last year around this time and into September which was very dry around here, so the grass really dried out and turned brown, as did the tree leaves.

Same here... was surprised how much the grass grew in past week despite hot temps and not much rain.
