Chambana
About 0.50" so far, just a slow steady soaker. Well needed too. Pretty sharp cutoff on rainfall, which was nicely modeled. HRRR showing some severe storms possibly for southern Illinois later today.

Tim from Springfield (IL)
A lot of fireworks cancellations in central Illinois this evening (those who decided to have their displays one night early to take advantage of Sunday evening, rather than 9PM on the 4th when many people have to go to work early the next day). Including here in Springfield (the ones at the State Capitol complex). Normally they're always on July 4 but for some reason--maybe to take advantage of Sunday night and the rest of the weekend--the display and corresponding events were moved to tonight. Even though so far this "flash flood watch" has busted in the immediate Springfield area (but it's a different story in Taylorville, Pana, Effingham, etc.) with only 0.72 in. of rain so far (and we need a lot more to relieve these drought conditions). And it appears that this evening may be drier than originally expected. Interestingly, the Springfield Jaycees--who are sponsoring the local fireworks/festivities--have decided NOT to reschedule the display to its usual July 4 date. I would NOT want to be a Jaycees member around this time--can you say "Public Relations Disaster?" Although it was the fireworks company that made the decision earlier today. Tim from Springfield (IL)
Major straight-line wind damage (or possible tornado) earlier this afternoon to a Walmart in Louisa, KY, leaving the inside unusable: https://weather.com/news/weather/news/walmart-damage-wind-tornado This is the second time in two weeks that a Walmart has had storm damage--the store in Pontiac, IL sustained some damage during the tornado there on the night of June 22.
