While the developing La Nina was good for a top ten warmest July at LGA, the strong +PDO muted the top heat potential like we saw

during the record hot -PDO/La Nina period from 2010-2013.

July max temperatures since 2010 at Newark:

2016....99

2015...98

2014...96

2013..101

2012..104

2011..108

2010..103..may have been higher due to famous equipment error

Top ten warmest July for numerous stations around the region through July 28th. Cooler temps to close out the last 3 days of the month will

probably result in slipping a few spots lower.

Temperature anomalies for summer thus far; the US-Canadian border and northern parts of New England have generally been the coolest areas relative to normal. Otherwise, it has been a nationwide warm summer to date w/ the most anomalous heat in the Central US. The first half of August looks slightly warmer than normal, and I think we will trend warmer for mid month and beyond.
