andyhb
Yesterday (6/23), an intense tornado spawned by a supercell triggered by quasi-stationary Mei-yu frontal zone tore through the eastern portion of Yangshen, Jiangsu Province (city of >7 million people) in eastern China. As of this moment, sources indicate there are at least 98 deaths attributed to the tornado and over 800 injuries with thousands of buildings damaged or destroyed. Damage pictures show numerous homes flattened and large buildings (warehouses, factories, etc.) with severe damage. Torchageddon
I just saw this on the news a few minutes ago and went here to see if it was posted (within 5 mins, so probably at the same time). That's really crazy, China has had a devastating year for tornadoes. It doesn't seem like violent tornado level damage (in most areas plus the building codes there...naso durable) so I'm guessing the tornado was very wide and hit a densely populated area which led to the death toll. andyhb
First moments of this short video appear to show the tornado. Looks like it was rain-wrapped and very large.

andyhb
Looks like the tornado has been rated an EF4 by the Chinese Met Agency.
