THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STERLING VIRGINIA HAS ISSUED A  

 

* SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR...  

THE SOUTHWESTERN CITY OF HARRISONBURG IN WESTERN VIRGINIA...  

SOUTHEASTERN ROCKINGHAM COUNTY IN WESTERN VIRGINIA...  

SOUTHWESTERN GREENE COUNTY IN CENTRAL VIRGINIA...  

NORTHEASTERN AUGUSTA COUNTY IN WESTERN VIRGINIA...  

NORTHWESTERN ALBEMARLE COUNTY IN CENTRAL VIRGINIA...  

 

* UNTIL 300 PM EDT  

 

* AT 216 PM EDT...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WAS LOCATED OVER  

BRIDGEWATER... OR NEAR HARRISONBURG...MOVING EAST AT 30 MPH.  

 

HAZARD...60 MPH WIND GUSTS AND QUARTER SIZE HAIL.

So is this line it? The warning is until 2 AM? I expected some firing of cells behind this but I guess not?

 

1) It's a Severe Tstm Watch - no warning would go that long. 2) watches are long fused and often get cancelled early. It happens like this almost every time unless it's a very long fused event.

I meant watch. No clue why I typed warning. I know they are usually much longer than the actual action, but it still seems a bit ridiculous.

I mean it's to account for every portion of the watch. Often if storms are moving from one end to the other it's very reasonable and not ridiculous to expect them to have cleared one part of the watch area but not another. Sure it may not last until 9pm (the ending time). but that's why they clear the watch box incrementally.

TORNADO WAS LOCATED NEAR GIBSON ISLAND...MOVING SOUTHEAST AT 35
MPH.

HAZARD...TORNADO AND QUARTER SIZE HAIL.

SOURCE...RADAR INDICATED ROTATION.

IMPACT...FLYING DEBRIS WILL BE DANGEROUS TO THOSE CAUGHT WITHOUT
SHELTER. MOBILE HOMES WILL BE DAMAGED OR DESTROYED.
DAMAGE TO ROOFS...WINDOWS...AND VEHICLES WILL OCCUR. TREE
DAMAGE IS LIKELY.
