Stebo
Can't disagree as far as the bolded. But again, it is what it is. Until we can finally get into a pattern that will allow legitimate death ridges to set up over the region, expectations should be kept in check. If it weren't for the cut off next week, we'd have a legitimate death ridge move in. That being said the path of that cut off isn't set in stone yet and things could change in our favor next week. OHweather
I think this is pretty funny, even if it's also BS. Maybe I'm just edgy because other than last Sunday, nothing has worked out locally storm wise lately. PBZ had some storms move through their CWA that they didn't warn. I wasn't really watching the radar so it's possible the storms really didn't look impressive. When they got several reports of trees downed by these storms, they sent the LSRs as "Thunderstorm Wind Gust" and estimated 50 or 55MPH gusts, and put "tree down" in the comments...instead of sending them as "Thunderstorm Wind Damage" like they should've. By doing this, the estimated 50-55MPH gusts don't count as a missed severe thunderstorm, unless someone goes in and looks closer and changes the LSRs later. Clever but seems sort of slimy to me. None of those reports have shown up on the SPC page yet as wind. Edit: Upon closer inspection...the two they sent as "wind damage" came from the one warning they issued. All of the other "estimated gusts" of just less than the severe limit associated with trees down came from storms they didn't warn. weathergy
2012 was active. July 4th-5th, 2012 was one of the most prolific severe weather event we've seen in the past 10 years. Not here locally in Taylor. 2010 was basically the last active year in the downriver area. We had a few events hit here since then but nothing like I've seen in 2010 or the mid 2000s.
