It’s August now, so I’ve got the July precipitation numbers for my site.

Rainfall was 4.83”, which comes in at 96.0% of average, so certainly nothing notable in this area in terms of dryness.

It was definitely a nice month in this area - apparently humidity was a bit below normal as I’ve heard PF mention.  It’s been great for all the usual outdoor stuff we do around here, although I’d say on the cool side for water activities.

For the calendar year to this point, precipitation is at 26.63”.  That’s 86.7% of average, so 2016 has been just a bit on the dry side.

Calendar year total thru 7/31 is 22.28", which is 81.9% of average.  For April-July it's 10.73", which is 61.1% of avg.

Beautiful day going.  I can tell the sun angle is decreasing.   I want my pond back! Green pastures are becoming dust bowls.  Not even meadow grass left for the deers in many places!

Jeez...nothing like that around these parts.  That's real dry.

PF.  Actually if you drive 5 miles to my north or south its much greener.  Of course all of Central and Southern NH/Maine are in drought but uniquely my town has missed probably a dozen heavy showers/storms this summer while others have got them.  I have never seen my lush pastures look like this.   Saturday may frustrate me again as I wish we could slow down this fropa.  Hope it doesn't happen in the AM with the good stuff going up  to my east.  Then another long wait for rain.

Yeah, that photo just took me by surprise.  I know your area has had a little less precip than west in VT but Dendrite's totals have been similar to middle of the pack in Vermont.  A little below normal but nothing excessive.  Don't worry, you'll make up for it in the winter, grabbing all the weenie bands.

2pm.   Congrads to Brian?  Nice cell is going to go very close to you or frustratingly just south??

3pm   Guess I can edit my own post.  That cell didn't look like it amounted to anything.  Really very limited convection coverage in New England today.  Thought we would see more and maybe we will especially for SNE.  Another long wait for rain now.  Looking at the 12Z Euro and GFS maybe something to look forward to at the end of the week.  Front coming down and the moisture from that Florida system perhaps linking up to give the Northeast a good rainfall?   Crazy amounts of rain is going to occur in the Florida panhandle region with that system just sitting for days.

Looks like we'll be missing a cell to the north soon after missing one just to the south a bit ago. Despite 4"+ in July the lawn is pretty brown and turning barren. Maybe we can generate something along the southern end of that line. Looks like a 99% chance of fail though.

Brian,  The cell that just missed you to your north, just missed me to the south.  I could literally hear the rain on the ridgeline.  It really developed just SW of me and produced about half a dozen lightning bolts that I heard.  One went right in front of the webcam but you can't see it on this sped up clip.  Bristol got a good downpour as did areas to the east.  Month remains at 0/00" after July's 2.11".  Our 25 or so baby apple trees we planted last summer are now all wilting and there is nothing I can do...

Looks like another long wait for next rain chance.   Anyhow here is video of the just missed thundershower..    https://video.nest.com/clip/baaf303e232e414c9591e1287cb3365a.mp4

Kid were swimming in the river in the backyard and it got dark to the North in a hurry.  Line of storms dropped in, meh wind and decent downpour for abut 10 mins-- .20" in the gauge.

2.2" for AUG.

Yeah had a pretty solid downpour yesterday as the line moved through the mountains.  I was hanging out on the hill checking in on staff when it moved in through the Notch to the north.  You could hear it pouring across the mountain before it reached us.

Positive news on the drought relief for all of us who have missed most of the summer convection so far?   The 12Z 8/8/16 Euro sure looks good for all of New England late week through next Tuesday.  We mostly miss the Wed stuff which looks to be a SNE deal.  Then a front to the north and low pressure coming up from the SW could give us a healthy dose of rain.  Euro shows a region wide 2.5 to 5" rainfall by the time it all ends next Tuesday.  One way or another we should all get much needed rain out of this setup.  Don't see how we get through the next 7 days without at least some meaningful rain.

Given the past 3 weeks, when about 8 different heavy rain potentials have combined to provide less than 1/4" total precip, I'll be no more than mildly interested until it's well within 100 hours - maybe not until it's within 24 hours.  Getting gun-shy...

Edit:  Carrabassett is at all time low flow for the date.  Sandy is 4 cfs above the record set in 1965, the driest year on record for much of the Northeast.  However, 8/9/65 saw a significant rain event, so I expect 2016 to be setting the pace for the Sandy later this week.

Totally get it Tamarack.  I have spent so much time the past 2 years whining about lack of rainfall that I'm sure the NNE posters would "unfriend" me if they could.  I am trying to think positive.  It's got to break sometime.  The Euro has so many 6 hour blocks with meaningful qpf chances that I would have to think we get something more than a 20 minute T storm.  We shall see!
