Digging into cocorahs. Precip around here since 5/1.

Northfield 1 W (me) -- 9.99"

Tilton-Northfield 3.3 NE -- 9.70"

Northfield 2.8 E -- 9.17"

Belmont 1.7 SW -- 9.10"

Brian,  I have to be way under these amounts.  I don't keep records like you do and I didn't record my May rainfall but it was not much.  I did start writing down rainfall amounts as of June 1st since we were already so dry.  I recorded 2.68 in June and 1.90 in July so far.  Of that 1.75 was in one day, June 10th I believe.  I whined all last summer about missing most every thunderstorm and then after a winter with little snow went right into this exceptional dry period. Plymouth to my north and Bristol to my south have gotten some good thunderstorms but not here.  You and eek have consistently recorded more rain than me in almost every event this summer.  To illustrate how dry it is in my local micro climate I just flew the drone and pointed straight down. 8 foot deep pond is long dried up to large dustbowl and the fields are all browning out.  We have been watering the lawns immediately around the house on a daily basis so there is some green left but I think I should stop lawn irrigation as I don't know how low the ground water is getting, especially living on a hill.  I do have a deep well so I think we have been fine.  Just watched WMUR and they had a segment on the drought.  They were saying the ground water is extremely low.  It's going to take a lot of rain to bring the ground water back up!  Looking forwarded to some rain over the next several days to help the surface moisture.

Beautiful photos, eyewall.  That road is so much fun to drive in the spring when the frost heaves come out to play.

How high up can you fly the drone?

Thank you and the app will allow 1600ft above the launch point (which you are not really supposed to do).

We did get some rain here in the Monadnock region tonight but overall, it's been a frustrating gardening season. I've watched so much rain start out in NY and never get here.

If you check out the stream flow map here: http://waterwatch.usgs.gov/index.php?r=nh&id=ww_current you can see that in Peterborough, the Contoocook is at 2% where the normal mean is 12 and the normal median is 19%.

The forecast for drought to extend into the fall isn't doing anything for me either.

I haven't actually visited the site myself so I can't say about the vegetation. I do keep mentioning it every time they head out for routine maintenance.

I have an "in" at the airport, i'll see if i can get some detail and/or pics of the siting

no pics, but the ASOS is right in the middle of the airfield, in a grassy area, between runways.

i did hear that there is some painting going on at the ASOS, so there has been a van parked nearby and obviously workers in the area. not sure if that would impact the temp readings though. i guess that has been going on for a week or 2.

Let's try this again. Hopefully the upgrade doesn't eat my post this time. Avg highs for selected stations (5z-5z days) for July so far.

Concord Municipal ASOS (KCON) 338ft 86.5F
Bear Brook RAWS (BERN3) 365ft 85.2F
Soucook River HADS (SOUN3) 270ft 85.1F
Suncook River HADS (NCHN3) 357ft 84.3F
Franklin Falls Dam HADS (FFDN3) 415ft 83.7F
Silver Lake HADS (SLVN3) 485ft 83.5F
Lake Winnisquam HADS (LKWN3) 478ft 83.3F
Pittsfield Mill Dam HADS (PTFN3) 485ft 83.1F
Contoocook River HADS (COTN3) 358ft 83.1F
Winnipesaukee River HADS (TLTN3) 442ft 81.9F
Laconia Municipal AWOS (KLCI) 545ft 81.7F
Weirs Beach HADS (WEIN3) 508ft 81.6F
Northfield CWOP (C7324) 614ft 80.4F
Tilton CWOP (C9887) 866ft 80.0F
Newbury CWOP (D5928) 1555ft 77.4F

Caveats...

I believe the HADS/RAWS sites are instantaneous readings and the public data available is generally at 15min intervals so highs in between can be missed. I think they're all working with passive shields too (although some of those higher end passive shields have ways to increase aspiration through the sensor chamber.) However, the airport sites are 5-min running means which keep the highs lower than the instantaneous values. Using the raw 1-min obs for CON for June 2016 the avg high was 80.1F. The official avg high, with the running means, was 79.4F. So I'd surmise that the temperature averaging/smoothing accounts for about a 0.5-1.0F difference. The CWOP sites probably have less response than the other sites although I've mentioned enough how much aspiration I have through my sensor chamber that the horse has been beaten into hamburger meat.

Eyewall.  Really like the first picture with Mansfield up close and the clouds.  It's really interesting photo with the rockface and the clouds.  Did you encounter any wind at that altitude?

It would be really neat to summit Mount Washington and fly around the summit cone.  Probably only a few days a summer to get excellent visibility and light enough winds.

Thank you! Winds were almost calm with an occasional gust to 10-15mph which was no problem. Mt. Washington and the Whites are on the list! I wish I was there today! I need to get it to line up with light winds and a day off! Of course that is a tall order I know.

Just looking at the 12Z models.  Euro backed way off for qpf for northeastern areas.  Has a 6" bullseye around Albany.  So convection is going to hit a brick wall with high pressure and cool winds off the ocean.  How far NE will be the question.  Worst drought areas in NE Mass towards SW Maine miss out on the good stuff.

heh...pretty rare to see stronger "wind" at HIE than MWN. 1KT is a new one for me up there.

It was about as calm as it gets in the upper elevations of Mansfield today.  I spent a couple hours above 3,000ft at work and it was near perfect.  Temps in the 60s with calm winds.

hey fellas, been out of it, literally and figuratively.  Rough rough summer.  Any of you had a kidney stone?  Lots of fun, let me tell ya.  On top of that, went to a mtn bike festival in pa and one of my crew got hit by a bus and killed.  Need a break and hope to be back up in a few weeks.
