Glad we don't live there

It's nice here with the seabreezes in the summer-we rarely crack 90-on the flip side, T-storms die as they come in (unless they are moving NW to SE)

Have you tried using a sprinkler? Works like a charm.

I'm holding out for a lucky Tstorm.   If we miss Thursday I will have to fire it up.

You must have similar weather to Long Island then. It was about 20 degrees cooler yesterday out there vs inland NJ.

We're a slightly modified version of LI.  I'm about 5 miles from the sound.   June is often cool here due to the still chilly SST's.   In the winter we'll hang onto snow longer than LI, sometimes not changing over at all while it's raining there.  Yesterday we maxed out at about 78 while it was close to 90 well inland.

Nobody was calling for doom and gloom on the coast. I mentioned cooler temperatures on Long Island with an Easterly flow and that's exactly what happened.

Spent the day in Smithtown where the high was 74. Meanwhile the high at my house was 93.

Where in smithtown were you?

I see that MacArthur's high was 74, was that the number you used?

FMG hit 80 and all of the PWS sites in smithtown were 78 and higher.

Areas by me in Commack and East Northport were in the mid-80's. Note that these areas are about 10-12 miles due west of smithtown, and often a similar temperature in the summer.

So it is not entirely accurate to say that "Long Island" topped out at 74. Many areas in NW Suffolk were in the mid 80s, and i cannot find a single site near smithtown which was lower than 78.

Smithtown is well north of MacArthur and as such is almost always much warmer on summer days. The difference between MacArthur and areas such as Port Jeff, Northport, etc can be as much as 20 degrees in the summer as well.

Also, FMG topping out at 80 makes me question the 74 number for smithtown, as FMG is much further south than smithtown and is more susceptible to the sea breeze
