bluewave
Good to see that there were no serious injuries to the 5 people struck by lightning in Long Beach the other day. The great drone video below captured the strike and Newsday took a still from it. Video posted to social media Once in a lifetime..... Here's the lightning bolt video from the finals of #NYSurfWeek..... and just to add a note here, right after that bolt, the water was cleared and everyone was advised and helped off the beach....... Cfa
New weather station in Bryant Park. Unfortunately it isn't official, but it should be alright for temperatures in that area of Manhattan, unless it's shrouded in vegetation like KNYC. Even still, I always thought Bryant Park would make a better location than Central Park.

dWave
One of the mets on channel 4 actually went into some detail about Central Park running cooler than surrounding stations this year. Showed how LGA, EWR etc have much more 90 degree days and the location of the sensors are likely holding temps down a few degrees.
bluewave
NYC would have many more 90 degree days if the sensor was in the same location as before they changed it. Sundog
Bluewave, is there any data on dewpoint trends over the last 30+ years? I'm curious if the global warming trends have increased dewpoints along with temps. My gut tells me they've gone up, but I'm wondering if there's data to back that up. CC compiled dewpoint data for numerous stations since 1980. Northeast sites have seen a 2 degree or more increase in summer dewpoints since 1980. http://www.climatecentral.org/gallery/graphics/summers-getting-muggier-as-dewpoint-temp-rises
