Probably a top 5 driest June for parts of LI with only 1.13" at Islip this month.

This is the 4th month in a row that many stations will come in with below normal precip.

Barring any additional rain thru tomorrow...3 of the past 4 months here have had under 2" of precip...May however was a bit above average with 4.60".

It can be tricky going into the summer with an existing drought since convection is usually hit or miss around here.

We will need a series of organized systems and some tropical help to break this drought pattern.

...its been 20+ years since the 'sunrise hwy' fires(westhampton,eastport)..wonder how

this dry pattern matches(no pun) up with 1995...?

This is actually the driest March through June around here since 1995. The big story that year was the historic

dry August. NYC set the record for driest August ever at only 0.18" and the 3rd driest calendar month on record.

I can remember local small ponds drying up.

and help from the tropics is usually August and Sept/Oct so we may have to wait a bit.

Saw some tree service trucks around and some branches and tree debris around. Come to think of it, I do remember a point in the storm where the winds started blowing NW then back to NE. This also coincided with some transformer popping sounds, but no power outage by me. I'm also very close to Central & Livingston Ave, like within a half mile.

That's very close to where that tornado hit a few years ago right? I think it started in Somerset and crossed into Berkeley Hts and NP

Wow, I must have been just beyond the southern edge of it then.

Yeah, this was just over a half mile south of the 2013 tornado's track which ran east along Springfield Ave.

The 12z Euro continues the rainfall suppression pattern here for the next 10 days.

It goes from 0.1 in NYC to +5.5 in Southern New Jersey. Look for an expansion

of drought conditions around the area if it verifies this dry going into July.

The 12z EPS mean is much less suppressed than the OP and looks more like the GFS and GGEM which are further North.

Given the radar and the damage, I'm surprised that was determined to be a microburst.  Can't say I've heard of a van getting flipped on its roof in 70 mph non-tornadic winds.

That's what I thought. Really bizarre. The roof must be made out of solid lead or something.
