We've definitely flipped to a long term drier pattern after Irene.   Even with great winter snows in '13-'15 it was cold and the water equivalent was not that impressive.

Much of the severe has also been focusing from down around Central to Southern New Jersey since the June 2012 Derecho.

And south Jersey was in a major drought not long before that so things definitely have a way of evening out

It's all about how long particular 500 mb patterns lock into place before they shift again.

Recent years have favored Central to Southern NJ.

Tuesday’s thunderstorm through South Jersey brought down thick hail, torrential rain and wind gusts of up to 80 mph.

In its wake, the storm left countless downed trees and power lines.

Atlantic City Electric was reporting more than 32,000 customers, mostly in Cape May County, without power at 6:30 p.m.

While the region had been under a tornado warning, and some social media used said they believed they may have seen a tornado, there had not been a confirmed tornado report by early Tuesday evening. The National Weather Service was investigating reports.

Even without a tornado, New Jersey 101.5 meteorologist Dan Zarrow says, the reported 80 mph gusts that were enough to cause much of the damage seen in the images below.

so much for the "cool" summer-first 20 days of June

Anything under +2 during the summer here is the new cool. The bar has been raised so high for heat, that you need

to go +3 or more for it to be considered hot anymore. Two months like June and July 2009 below -3 were an

extreme cold outlier.

Jfk does super well on an offshore flow

Yeah, that's our warmest flow here along the South Shore during the summer.

Gilgo Beach just had a 10 degree temperature jump in the last hour with the wind shift.

It's been sizzling hot the past week in surburban Union County and surrounding. In the past week alone, 5 days have been above 90. Hit 91 today. Reading all these posts on comfortable sleeping conditions, etc. Feels like I'm living in another world.

you are!  LOL.  Yesterday was the only day here that was even close to A/C worthy here.   It's 77/53 now.
