downeastnc
Still haven't hit 90 at PGV, average first date for a 90 is May 5th, latest ever is June 13th....if we can make it past the next few days then the pattern coming up would put beating that date in the ballpark. Neither the CMC of GFS show temps of 90 or better here through June 9th

downeastnc
We dodged 90 again today with a high of 88, calling for 89 tomorrow not sure we escape without hitting 90 tomorrow, if we do then PGV stands a decent chance of setting a new record for latest into the year without hitting 90. downeastnc
PGV just hit 90 for the first time this year at 4:05, so 21 days past the average first date and a hr or two from making it long enough to most likely have set a new record for latest first 90 degree day since models dont have us over 90 again before June 13th which is the now safe latest first 90 date for PGV. buckeyefan1
What causes this? It's not been warm, dry, and stagnent for days on end. Ground-level ozone is a colorless and highly irritating gas that forms just above the earth's surface. It is called a "secondary" pollutant because it is produced when two primary pollutants react in sunlight and stagnant air. These two primary pollutants are nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). NOx and VOCs come from natural sources as well as human activities. About 95 per cent of NOx from human activity come from the burning of coal, gasoline and oil in motor vehicles, homes, industries and power plants. VOCs from human activity come mainly from gasoline combustion and marketing, upstream oil and gas production, residential wood combustion, and from the evaporation of liquid fuels and solvents. Significant quantities of VOCs also originate from natural (biogenic) sources such as coniferous forests. Ozone is known to have significant effects on human health. Exposure to ozone has been linked to pre-mature mortality and a range of morbidity health end-points such as hospital admissions and asthma symptom days. In addition to its effects on human health, ozone can significantly impact vegetation and decrease the productivity of some crops. It can also injure flowers and shrubs and may contribute to forest decline in some parts of Canada. Ozone can also damage synthetic materials, cause cracks in rubber, accelerate fading of dyes, and speed deterioration of some paints and coatings. As well, it damages cotton, acetate, nylon, polyester and other textiles. The Ozone Annex was added to the Canada-United States Air Quality Agreement (December 2000) to address the transboundary air pollution leading to high levels of ground-level ozone, a major component of smog. Heavy rain again here. Picked up half an inch so far in the past hour. yotaman
Failed to reach 90 again today. High of 88 again. One more day in the upper 80's and then we drop to the low 80's for awhile. Hopefully no 90 or higher for the forseeable future.

It hit 90 here for one obs which are taken every 20 mins at PGV so at best it was 90 for 20-30 mins, sucks cause we would most likely set a new date for latest first 90 degree day if it wasnt for that 20-30 min period lol......oh well.
