max_vorticity
I've read I several atmospheric science field guides about cloud cycles and visual appearance, etc. but when it comes to cycle age in relation to color, things haven't been made clear (to me at least). I know the stability is notable by raggedness of the cloud, but what about color? Does it have to do with how the amount of rain, factoring into cloud density, or...? Help! ohleary
Age and color are only tangentially related. Sure a maturing cumulus will slowly grow more gray as the cloud thickens/deepens and droplets grow larger. Color is more related to cloud thickness and/or droplet size in the cloud it seems. http://www.weather.gov.hk/education/edu06nature/ele_cloudcolours_e.htm#q3
