Jim Marusak
I think there are a few members from AZ, but they don't post very often. It will be a bit toasty in Phoenix this weekend…time to fry eggs on the pavement. Good luck trying to find a single cloud too. Daily high temp records will easily be broken on Sunday and Monday (the record for both days is 115, set in 1968). The normal high is 105. Hottest days on record: 122 on 6/26/1990 121 on 7/28/1995 120 on 6/25/1990 119 on 6/29/2013 Friday Sunny, with a high near 106. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Friday Night Clear, with a low around 79. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. Saturday Sunny and hot, with a high near 112. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Saturday Night Clear, with a low around 84. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northeast after midnight. Sunday Sunny and hot, with a high near 120. Calm wind becoming west southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Sunday Night Clear, with a low around 88. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Monday Sunny and hot, with a high near 119. East wind around 5 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon. just looked at the 500mb charts for the next few days among the models. and 597-600dkm heights out there, yikes. you won't be able to just fry eggs and bacon out there, you might be able to make a small section of roast beef or ham in the car (less than 5lbs) and some cookies to boot. but I also saw 500mb temps as high as -2C on the consensus of the models in the intermountain west and in Kansas. Question I have, in North America, and especially the continental US, have we ever had 500mb temps near 0C, or even above 0C? I can remember 600dkm events once every couple of years, but not ever 0C at 500 in North America.
Chinook
According to SPC sounding climatology page, Tucson, Flagstaff, Yuma, Albuquerque, and even Denver have had about 0C at 500mb on a couple of days in history. There's really nothing on any of those graphs above 0C.
Chinook
I went up to Laporte to watch the thunderstorm for a little while. When coming back, I noticed that there are some trees on fire at Lory State Park, near the ridge top.

hm8
You might be just miles away from me!Probably. I'm living a few blocks west of campus on Elizabeth. I went up to Laporte to watch the thunderstorm for a little while. When coming back, I noticed that there are some trees on fire at Lory State Park, near the ridge top. I was at the Atmos department building, apparently a few students there saw a CG strike ignite it. Got a snapchat of it real quick

Voyager
Thanks! If I do move out there, which is looking likely, especially if I can score a job before I leave PA, I'll try to post from the region. I'll be in Phoenix. As for the heat, I did live there before, from 96-01, so I know what it's like and generally don't mind it. I missed those top 4 in Phoenix, but I did experience 128 in Bullhead City back in, I believe, 1998 or 1999. It was a Thursday, and that was the day I did my weekly Colorado River run delivering new tires to retail stores. It topped out at 117 in Phoenix that day. Chinook
CoCoRAHS has lots of observers in this town, because it started here. Nolan Doesken and Henry Reges started CoCoRAHS after the Flood of 97 I believe.

mayjawintastawm
It's 10 PM, and 75 F IMBY which is a bit of a local cool spot. Low 80s in much of Denver. Don't think I can remember any nights this warm at this time in my 6 years here, though that stretch in June 2012 was close. Only got down to 71 for a low on 6/26/12, high that day was 105, so we might get lower than that later.
Chinook
It stayed at 90 here until the early evening. There was still a little haze, possibly due to that distant forest fire in NM. It is not so much an urban heat island here, but it was warm compared to most evenings.
Geos
kind of a strange mammatus pic I took yesterday Awesome picture. Looks like the dark portion is lower than the rest of the surrounding clouds. Chinook
It is getting dry in Wyoming and Colorado. There hasn't been much rain since early May. Fort Collins has had 0.04- 0.07" this month. Now the 90's are making the grass turn a bit brown.

Chinook
Yesterday, Fort Collins was much cooler with a high near 80 and some overcast conditions and rain at about 6:00PM. I had just enough rain at my place to get my car dirty, and the grass didn't get very wet. Today we've got localized low pressure east of DIA with light winds converging near there. There appear to be rows of bugs (low reflectivities, non-rain) east of DIA lined up with the boundary layer winds. I wonder if any severe reports will be near Kansas, where dew points range are 55-60 degrees.
Chinook
The Beaver Creek fire is northwest of Walden, in the remote regions of Routt National Forest. The burn area jumped from 3800 acres to 5300 acres. At one point in my life, I hiked into the Mt. Zirkel Wilderness (Routt N.F.) and stayed 2 nights. The trailhead I used might be near the Beaver Creek fire. There are lots of beetle-killed trees.

jm1220
This is almost a coast-to-coast dry spell now. Crazy how down here it seems again to be going from endless rain in late spring to massive ridge and dry/hot for months. We had some showers a couple of days ago but besides that it's been 3 weeks now since Austin's had any rain. We might have another severe flash drought at this rate like last summer. The heat and high sun in this area dries the ground up fast.
Chinook
There is a nasty storm headed towards Denver right now. Large hail is detected by radar, but it is not even warned yet! Radar now estimates 2.25" hail in the northwest metro area.
