Maybe it was just January 2011 then that was stuck in my memory...but I def remember some groaning over missing the jackpots for a while there.

But yeah, Feb/Mar was sick there.

Feb/Mar 2014 was pretty good up in NNE too, but that January was pretty brutal with all the cutters and whiffs. When I was up at Sunday River on March 21-23, 2014, the snow was a solid 4 feet deep on the level at low elevation (500-100 feet) and probably 5-6 feet deep at 2k. Some of the best skiing in the past several years was March 2014.

Speaking of Sunday River

Make Spruce Great Again

As you well know, the Spruce Peak Triple took a tumble this summer and we've been hard at work getting to the bottom of it. And while we'd love to sit here and share stories about the good old (slow) days on the Spruce Peak Triple that was, there are more important things to discuss. Namely, we'll be replacing the Spruce Peak Triple with a brand new lift.

"Say what?!" you say. Well, it's true.  Spruce is getting an upgrade! This fixed-grip triple chairlift from Doppelmayr, complete with a conveyor loading system, will get you from top to bottom a full two minutes faster, meaning you can ski Spruce Peak's signature corduroy two minutes sooner than ever before.

We're still noodling away at what this construction timeline will look like as we delve into engineering plans with Doppelmayr, but we just couldn't wait any longer to let you in on the big news! Have no fear—you'll still be able to hit American Express, Risky Business, and Downdraft this winter as conditions allow. Just take the Aurora Peak Quad to Borealis before a tiny hike up Sirius while we get down to business replacing the lift.

What's more, we've already begun construction on another lift project, too. Much like an episode of Pimp My Ride, we're getting a shiny new top terminal for the Locke Mountain Triple due to design similarities to the old Spruce lift. We expect this project to be finished right around opening day. Again, no worries. We'll still be first in the East to open, because if Locke isn't quite ready for action, we'll make snow on Aurora Peak to be accessed by the Chondola.

Steve I never said a -EPO was bad. If just prefer a nice steady -NAO. Nothing sucks more than a great period of snow, followed by a 970 low going up buffalo's anus. You do play with fire a bit more with a -EPO if it's not situated  perfectly. The cold dumps into the plains can excite cyclogenesis over the OV.

Yeah in 2010-11 there was griping in January...I think at one point ORH had same snowpack as MMNV1 at the picnic tables.  But that winter is how I think they should go, crush SNE Dec/Jan and NNE Feb/Mar, lol.  Seasonal progression.

Yeah spring 2014 was solid.  There was a big mid-March storm that year and a mini-Valentine's Day #2.  Plus I remember a lot of smaller stuff and orographics.  December and January were atrocious though...Arctic cold then rain then arctic cold.  We just could never make up ground lost in Dec/Jan so season totals were down but that was a fun spring and it lasted a while.

Joking aside, I hope NNE does well. For an economy that is dependent on winter sports.....it's definitely not cool to see anyone hurting. You guys have definitely taken one on the chin. Hope you all get buried. However, not sure Ray feels the same. He actually hate Weymouth and anywhere N and W of ORH.

"Mid-level magic" storm.

That was a brutal QPF performance by the models...the QPF Queens were not happy with that model showing.

Probably one of the biggest bust i can remember in such short order, 12"+ to 2" to whiff

Nevermind NNE, Scooter is due for a couple storms where he is outside in his speedo on the slip'Nslide while looking at pics from winter hill in ORH plastered in 15" of cement.

Yup, ORH gets in on a lot of fun that makes a few envious

 It's been awhile. Feb 2014 and even Ray got to take me out behind his shed on that one. Been a hell of a run and notice you never saw me boast once. These things don't happen often.

As much as I hate it, I'm sure ill

be going through a stretch where I'm sipping cosmos on my deck in mid January, while NNE is balls deep in snow. I can't wait for all the kindergarten style posts of "finally the snow is back where it belongs."

lol after all the kindergarten posts NNE has put up with the past couple winters, if Winter Becomes Great Again, I'm sure someone will let you know.

LOL I'll give Ray credit for being brutally honest, but yeah he absolutely loathes snow falling anywhere but Wilmington, MA.

The posts about it snowing where it shouldn't snow and how it's not snowing where it should. To be fair, it was mostly Whineminster....but I know many felt that way. I'm also busting chops.

Yeah there's a lot of snow trolling that goes on haha.  To me it's no fun trolling people who climo wise get less snow, lol.  I never got like why PeteMRG would go into the mid-Atlantic threads and troll them about his snow, but I know there was some other off-topic stuff there...but it's like, yeah elevated interior New England gets more snow than the beaches of CT, congrats, is that worth making special mention haha?
