The latest HRRR Is very intriguing.    The storyline in most of the guidance has been that the early morning band of precip will be rain except for areas well northwest  of I-95, with the threat for snow for most people during the afternoon.    But the HRRR says that it comes down so heavily in the initial band that it actually turns most of the area over to a nice burst of snow.

What time does it have the precip starting?

roughly 4AM in the western burbs and 5AM for DC.     starts as rain.    in fact, the 00z cycle backed off a bit on the intensity which slows down any transition to snow.   Rates will be the key for getting snow in the early morning band.

The RAP and the HRRR? 1z cycles should bring it back.

Currently 36. Somehow I don't see rain as a possibility overnight.

I was thinking that too. I am at 37. If the upper levels are cold then what makes this any different than the same set up in January. I know when the sun comes up its toast but until about 12z we should be cold enough. Or am I nuts
