stemwinder
It would be only the second time during the 2010's for a first Newark 90 in June. 2015....5/26...91 2014....6/18...92 2013....5/30...93 2012....5/28...91 2011....5/30...92 2010....4/7.....92 Got to ask, if you have it: When Newark first 90 was in 2009. I remember it being cool that year. A lot of people grumbled that year, but it was to my liking. Thx.

A lot of people grumbled that year, but it was to my liking. Thx. 2009 is one of a few years with its highest temperature of the year occurring in April but it was tied in August 2009...1976 had it's hottest temperature in April and August almost matched that temperature... bluewave
the last two years had its highest temperature in September...that has never happened three years in a row... NYC's highest temperature and month. Last May-Sep was one of the oddest for bookend warmth and not much heat in the middle. If you took out last May and September, then JJA was only +1.5 with a below normal number of major heat days of 95 or greater. jm1220
I can't see the rest of the arcticle. How much of an increase ? Good thing.i have a long each life guard T-shirt Daily passes went from $13 to $16. Resident season passes went up too. 10 or so years ago, daily passes were $7. The city takes in tons more money from Manhattan tourists than it did pre-2005 and especially pre-Sandy. Lots of residents are complaining now about all of them being around during the summers. I always hated driving through town when the trains let out-it could be a green light on Park Ave and they would just keep walking across and chatting/texting away. LB is also probably the same length of time on a train as the subway given fewer stops. But I agree, the increases are getting ridiculous. Part of it might be the City Council trying to find a balance between fewer tourists coming from NYC vs. increased revenue-the prior increases didn't stop people from coming. Part of it might be the City Council trying to find a balance between fewer tourists coming from NYC vs. increased revenue-the prior increases didn't stop people from coming. They do offer a discounted combination beach pass and train ticket from NYC to LB. Since many local merchants rely on the beach traffic from the city for their revenue, they probably would want to keep that part of the beach pass increase to a minimum. Their has always been a tension between people in Long Beach that want it as a more local beach for residents and merchants and the city needing the revenue. It's a tough balancing act since the beaches do get overcrowded on the weekends and traffic gets bad at times. There is already very little parking in Long Beach and it's nearly impossible to find parking on beach weekends. One the flip side, local merchants really struggle during the off season and each year it seems a few close since the businesses really slow during the winter. Long Beach is a tricky market to operate a business in and be successful.

I was hoping for some clearer images, but there was still a lot of atmospheric distortion today. Still a cool event to watch. 1000mm refracting scope with a 2x Barlow lens and Baader film solar filter, shot with a crop sensor DSLR at prime focus (mounted directly to the scope).
