weatherwiz
I wouldn't be surprised actually if we saw a couple 1'' hail reports today.
ryanjn
Trop is so low. Any storms pushing 25-30kft will prob produce hail, even with relatively low VIL. I'd say by 1:30pm we might start seeing some small hail reports in E NY and W MA/CT.
ryanjn
I wonder how much if any lightning storms will have. Very low PW, not a lot of moisture to work with. I think lightning will be those single stroke flashes mostly. We'll see though. A CG in NY state with very low VIL recently and low base ref, so maybe storms with 50+dbz will produce some ok lightning.
ryanjn
Wish the damn HRRR would work. Can't get the HRRRX past 11z. It's showing some small but some intense cores in central and eastern MA in a few hours though.

Some of the cells in NY are producing lightning...not a ton (at least CG).

eduggs
Just had a huge crash of thunder outside. That's two days in a row with good storms and I think 5 or 6 for the winter. We've had more special weather statements for thunderstorms this winter than for snow events. We're still running about +10 for the winter. I really wouldn't have thought that was possible. eekuasepinniW
Small cell to the north and another more impressive one that will scrape a mile to the south. Clouds look impressive.
backedgeapproaching
Really dark quickly with some decent thunder in the distance. Like Eduggs said, the tstorms/squall lines have been the highlight of this winter so far.

ryanjn
I hope this doesn't all congeal into a batch of steady rain. Still haven't seen any decent cores anywhere in the region and HRRR shows best chance of that between 1-3pm. meh.

powderfreak
Thunder and lightning, and the weirdest precipitation. Started as rain then changed to massive wet flakes then over to hail or graupel. It's like 48F in town and we got big wet flakes for a time with the inverted V sounding and dry air.
