Part of the reason we're seeing such ridiculous rates and inland penetration (apart from weak synoptic lift) is the fact that about 50% of the unstable layer (essentially the entire top half) is located in the dendritic growth zone, and we're getting some seeder-feeder processes from the cloud decks aloft. Noticed the several heavy showers that came through here exhibited huge, fluffy flakes.

1145 PM HEAVY SNOW 3 NNW KENOSHA 42.62N 87.84W

12/25/2010 M10.3 INCH KENOSHA WI TRAINED SPOTTER

14 INCHES. 3-HOUR SNOWFALL OF 8.2 INCHES BETWEEN 845 PM

AND 1145 PM. MAXIMUM HOURLY SNOWFALL RATE WAS 2.5 TO 3

This is just disgusting..

And i have no way of explaining this. Not one. Really beat out my expectations, because, instability wise, we're running town with marginal parameters.

It took me like 8 events to get to where I'm at and they might catch up with this storm.

Most likely they will...I feel your pain lol.. I'm sick and tired of looking at this snow pack *3", on the ground, sitting there for 2 weeks now.... Kinda excited it will all melt next week..
