weatherguru
Dammit I am east of ORD still have only seen light big flakes, I am drunk and waiting for this crazy 1-2inch per hr snowfall rates.
csnavywx
Part of the reason we're seeing such ridiculous rates and inland penetration (apart from weak synoptic lift) is the fact that about 50% of the unstable layer (essentially the entire top half) is located in the dendritic growth zone, and we're getting some seeder-feeder processes from the cloud decks aloft. Noticed the several heavy showers that came through here exhibited huge, fluffy flakes.
weatherguru
Damn the band is getting smaller.
KeenerWx
1145 PM HEAVY SNOW 3 NNW KENOSHA 42.62N 87.84W 12/25/2010 M10.3 INCH KENOSHA WI TRAINED SPOTTER STORM TOTAL OF 10.3 INCHES. TOTAL SNOW DEPTH ON GROUND IS 14 INCHES. 3-HOUR SNOWFALL OF 8.2 INCHES BETWEEN 845 PM AND 1145 PM. MAXIMUM HOURLY SNOWFALL RATE WAS 2.5 TO 3 INCHES. This is just disgusting.. And i have no way of explaining this. Not one. Really beat out my expectations, because, instability wise, we're running town with marginal parameters. Hoosier
It could be a while before this makes it into Chicago (I'm talking the heart of the city and not the northwest fringes) and who knows what condition the band will be in by then. Several inches for sure but can't remember specifically. The really heavy LES amounts were at the state line and east.
