BeastFromTheEast
This looks like a slam dunk warning event for Lake and a portion of Cook at this point. Yep.. Band is still developing over the lake as well.
BowMeHunter
This looks like a slam dunk warning event for Lake and a portion of Cook at this point. Doesn't seem to be sinking south fast like up here on my cheesy radar.. If this puppy can set up and drop shop , wow. I'm finally geyting over my bitterness of MKE duping me when I pretty much knew better than to get invested in this and can appreciate the event as a whole now. cyclone77
Sure wish LOT would switch off of clear air mode. Seems like a lot of the Midwest offices hang on to clear air mode too long with their 88Ds. DVN is good at switching over to precip mode when there's respectable radar returns showing up. cyclone77
Lake effect snow showers have moved as far west as just east of Sterling. There's a small chance we could even see a few light lake effect snow showers later on. It's happened before. The northern berbs of Chicago are just ripping right now. Hoosier
The LOT radar right now takes me back to the night of 1/22/05 (only this one is farther west). Band unexpectedly remained nearly stationary for several hours and dropped 1-2 feet on Lake county Indiana.

There's some synoptic scale help with these though, as evidenced by the unrelated snow near DVN.

Chicago Storm
It appears to my untrained eye that the band starting to progress more quickly to the south as Racine looks to be alomst out of it. Looks like it will shift a bit to the east only to come back west again, as returns over mid-lake are pulling back west again after an east shift/re-development a bit earlier which is what's being shown down stream. Hoosier
New LOT map...It will bust in Lake and Northern Cook at least... Anybody who has been studying the radar for the past few hours knows that there are going to be some big totals. This type of event highlights the problems with trying to maintain some sort of continuity in forecasting. It's not a totally useless concept but you can't do it when you get an intense quasi-stationary band of LES like this. Personally this would drive me crazy if I were a met.
