bowtie`
This evening at the pond. Another with the 100mm of just a partial of the sunset... Looking south at some low runners with some nice color in the background... Post sunset design looking back west...
bowtie`
The only clouds I could shoot were south this evening... As I was walking back to the car I saw these cloud shadows start up in the west and stuck around to see if they would get anymore vivid. They did!. As you can see there are no clouds on the horizon so these clouds had to be at least 60 miles away in Illinois and I am betting they might have been closer to 100 miles away. Quite a good distance to have such a vivid cloud shadow.
bowtie`
This evening I had thunderstorms to the northwest and a long wave to the south. I got to be stuck in the middle with clouds all about. Looking to the west, a little bit of a rocket engine... The clouds to the south were a long way away but they did span most of the horizon... bowtie`
Not a whole lot going on this evening. Some weak crepuscular rays... All I had to work with... As soon as the Sun dipped below the horizon, the dry air won and all the clouds disappeared, so that is all I got this evening.
bowtie`
Pre-sunset looked like a dude with a hat, shades and a tooth that flashed like the Sun... Post sunset, yellow flash... Post sunset, orange flash... And to end the trifecta of post sunset images for this evening, the red flash...
bowtie`
Zero clouds fro sunset this evening. Did not even go out to the pond. So I will have to stick with some of the clouds that sprung up on the back side of the upper low a little after the noon hour...
bowtie`
After last night's disaster of tipping the tripod over and dunking a lens in the water and mud, which completely trashed the poor lens, I was back on that horse again tonight and back at the pond. The color started coming on a little bit late. Could really see the bottom of the pond rather clearly this evening... Best color was really late and rather dark... bowtie`
As soon as I got to the pond this evening. Right beside the car. The red flash...

Mother Nature does all the heavy lifting in making the pretty clouds and great lighting. All I try to do is not mess it up too terribly bad. This evening looking south as I got to the pond... Someone just to the west of me had a great red flash... Once all the color was gone, I slapped on the 100mm and played a bit with reflections. The weird colors give this a unique feel. Avdave
All 3 are fantastic the second one is my favorite out of them. It is fun to play around with differ things with photogrpahy.
bowtie`
This evening as I hit the pond, this cloud to the east was collapsing with the loss of daytime heating and produced this short but vivid partial rainbow arc... Local sunset...
bowtie`
When I got to the pond, the lone cloud to the east. It was doing its wicked witch of the west imitation and melting with the loss of daytime heating. Pre sunset with the 100mm When I mess up, I mess up good. When I switched to the 16-35mm for more of an overview I must have accidentally clicked the lens over to manual focus and did not realize it till I got home and downloaded the days images. Oh well it still shows the colors\ even if it is all blurry.
bowtie`
Sunset was a washout. The first of probably many to come. So all I could get was the clouds between 2 and 3 p.m. when the atmosphere was just starting to simmer...
bowtie`
Some nice color at the pond this evening. Too bad it was so breezy...
bowtie`
Tonight I will show how it is not what you use, but how you use it that makes a great impact on images. Both images are with the 100mm lens and a hard GND filter. First image is a single image while holding the filter static in one position. I kind of like how the star burst fell on the billboard. Neat design. Second image is a six-image average with feathering (moving) the GND on three of the images and three of the images without the filter As you can see the single image has a dark sky and light water. While using the six image average you are able to even out the sky and water and also tone down hot spots by moving the filter.
bowtie`
Zero clouds for the sunset this evening. Post sunset though had some faint but broad crepuscular rays. Looking at the satellite data, seems like those clouds were in the Dakotas and Nebraska. Quite a long haul from here!
bowtie`
An arrowhead sunset this evening... The moon at 35mm...

bowtie`
Looking east after work today... Best color post sunset was to the south, watching the edge of the system moving east past us...
bowtie`
I was kind of surprised this evening. All the dry air around and I still had one cloud complex in the perfect position for the entire sunset.
bowtie`
This evening the next system is just a tad to my west still. And there seemed to be an inversion layer holding the smog down. Looks kind of dirty on the right side of the image.
bowtie`
Back out at the pond this evening. Reversed the GND on this image (dark side down)... This is about as close to real sunset as I can get at this location. Underneath that road sign in the distance. Getting kind of late but I still like it... bowtie`
Another nice sunset evolution... These will be ending sooner rather than later. But until then, I am enjoying them as much as I can.
bowtie`
Was expecting rain for this sunset. But when I left work the sun was shining. So anything I got was extra credit in my book.
