mackerel_sky
What's blooming , what's biting , and what's growing? Now that winter is most likely over, outside the mountains, let's focus on the fun times that spring hast to offer! Have daffodils in full bloom, creeping flox, Daphne, Carolina jessamine, all in various stages of bloom! Not had a chance to fish yet, water is too high! Also, put out pre- emergent a week ago! strongwxnc
I need some assistance on killing weeds and grass on a bank that I have Tiger lilies on. The bank is really just he top of a new piece of land (pasture - less than 1/2 acre)we have bought. For years we have layered mulched down and between the two long rows of Tiger lilies. I was hoping the lilies would take over a cover the bank but they have not yet. I have tried granular and liquid options at the start of the season. However, it is quickly taken over. It is a combination of weeds, briars , (black berry bushes use to be in the pasture not anymore after bush hogging) grasses and moss. Could I get something that can be laid down at the start of the season? I have been attacking after growth starts with concentrated round up. IT is a pain in my ass every year ! Lots of lost time having to handle this growth. Thanks
wncsnow
Have a month left and i will become a Virginia resident and get my fishing license and trout stamp. Have never fished up here before and look forward to exploring new territory. Then I will have 3 different licenses for 3 different states..When I make it back to WNC I will try to fish as much as I can.. Some of my favorite spots is South Toe River in Yancey, Curtis Creek near Old Fort, Raven Fork in Cherokee, Linville River in Avery
WxKnurd
Been fishing a few times on Wylie the past few months, but golf season has started in earnest for me and I'm not ready haha. First tournament is Saturday, hoping for a top half finish in my flight. If I can keep the ball in play off the tee I'll be fine, but the shakiness there has been leading to blow-ups. Bass and crappie fishing should be great this Spring, being on 60 degree water temps!

It's a great weed blocker and lasts for years. It's also free. Just mulch lightly on top.

Ordered 15k lbs of lime for the front pasture this week. Hoping it will dry out soon so I can put it out. I've been feeding the fish in my pond for two years now. I think it's time to pull some out. Just mulch lightly on top.Yeah, that's a great idea, but some of those woody weeds like blackberries and stuff, will actually push up the remnants, unless you have 2-3 layers of remnants on top! Can try cardboard in multiple layers also,a little mulch on top and it will decompose after a year or two. As far as chemical control, they make a heavier duty formula of round up , for brush and poison ivy control, that might be worth a shot. Also, check your farm supply stores/ local feed and seed stores, and see if they have a little stronger weed killer for farmers and commercial use! Worse case scenario is to dig up weeds between the day lilies , then lay down your mulch

I still like the story and picture of the State record striper they caught around Ashville a few years back! Some teenager caught it on a reservoir or lake that had never had stripers stocked in it! I think it was around 67lbs! And that huge catfish caught a few years back up your way, on Kerr Lake , I believe! In the 135lb range! Some good fishing in NC! They also claim the world record smallmouth Buffalo out of Wylie, at 88lbs! They caught it out of the Wildlife Club, if anybody knows that area! Yea winter has been pretty decent here, around 11-12 inches for the season and about 2 inches of sleet and some ZR. McDowell always does better when I'm gone than when I'm there. For example the big 09-10 winter I was in Norfolk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Weeds are inevitable, but if you start from scratch , by killing all the weeds, it's alot easier to stay ahead of the occasional weed that will try to take back over, by hand pulling or hoeing. Maybe try Preen, it's a weed preventer that is supposed to keep weeds from germinating, and most I've heard talk about it says it works !

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Merely depended on how thick she went with either the newspaper or boxes. I would say that no weeds til the paper products really started breaking down which took anywhere from 6 or more months. Worms are going to get underneath and really improve the soil in no time. If you are adamant on trying to keep the weeds to a minimum go several inches thick with the paper or boxes. If you don't like the looks of it just get a cheap mulch to cover but regardless, if you do this your soil is gonna be happy.
HWY316wx
Supposed to be 67° on Lake Lanier Sunday. That is where I will be. If it's not going to snow, I need fishing weather!
POWERSTROKE
Tell me what's so bad about round up? Don't say chemicals because you eat chemicals every day. Whether in foods or liquid. You keep using cheap remedies you will continental to have weeds. If you use barricade which is a pre emergent herbicide you will see great results but if you won't to use non chemicals then good luck.
