Pretty cool that we were able to sneak the first below zero since 1994 into the mix of extremes.

Definitely didn't see that coming. So tack on the second biggest snowstorm on record, a 13+ December, the second warmest winter on record, a below zero temperature reading, and a 40" winter.

What are the odds of that?

I guess the odds go way up when you add a record NE PAC SST blob...Record El Nino into R4...record warm Arctic

and kara block building back across the pole...record warm Atlantic ssts..most active MJO for such a strong El Nino.

This was the first winter that all those factors occurred together. So no previous winter had a chance to do what

we did this year.

Moderate band in Nassau and Suffolk. 

 

Per the home security cams, it is coming down at a good clip now, looks like around an inch. 

 

Here in Garden City in Nassau, also snowing steadily, probably close to an inch.
