Mercurial
One thing that's hard to depict about the Canadian Rockies from pictures is the depth and scale of the beauty. It's not like you have to drive and drive to see beautiful mountains like this -- they're literally all around you at all times. You can be dropped into literally any random location in Banff and be utterly surrounded by mountains as rugged as the Tetons, for hundreds of miles. This is my favorite place on earth. masomenos
Nice pics! It's a shame they get so torched from those relentless downsloping winds or else the Canadian Rockies would probably be one of the better ski destinations in North America. Definitely one of the more beautiful areas of the world, though.
Mercurial
Thanks! The BC side doesn't get strong chinooks AFAIK but they have other problems (marine-influenced climate; rain and fog, etc). Anyway, went back to Kootenay, Yoho, and Banff this weekend. Snowpack seemed really light for early May -- their mountains have less snow than ours, and that's the first time I've ever seen that happen. Lake Louise was nearly entirely melted as well, which is a month ahead of normal.

Quakertown needs snow
Nice! I've only visited in the winter for skiing, many times. The views from Sunshine and Louise are A+!
