Syrmax
I-88 is your transition line now. Let's see how that's evolves. I think this thing torches KSYR and mixes ROC for a couple hrs, or cuts ratios to dog meat. There's nothing stopping the warm nose. Disclaimer: huge accum will be reported in SNE and mid Atlantic, cuz.

BuffaloWeather
There's a nice blend of optimism and pessimism in this thread already, I love it. Most are pessimists with synoptic in Upstate. For good reason too.

BuffaloWeather
When was the last Miller A of this magnitude with 2' totals? 2008 right? We have had several Miller Bs within that timeframe, but this is definitely a rare breed.

I'll let let the fine details play out but this is turning into a decent event for the metro area, I'll take 8-12" any day and run with it. coh
Snow intensity has increased nicely over the past hour. Can't wait to see what the morning brings...good luck everyone! But especially the Rochester area for selfish reasons.

rochesterdave
Alright mother F'ers! Giddy up! I'm gonna keep track of Irondequoit snow (think just north of Kroc) by measuring against my beat ass Webber grill. Only 1/2" of this is new, most from old events, as of 1am. Let's Roll. Pics to follow.

That grill is a terrible spot for measurement.

AppsRunner
Euro with 2.2" of QPF for ROC, 27" max between ROC-SYR. Fulton's Max temperature is 33F, with around 1" of QPF falling at a warm surface. Screams ice storm look to it, but not entirely sure if I'd believe it. There's almost no way to forecast this

rochesterdave
It's a now cast event now anyway. I'm gonna enjoy this. It was touch and go all day for Rochester points East. Until the LP falls started moving a tick or two east down in the Deep South. I like where almost all of us stand. The coverage on most models has expanded considerably. This storm will still have a few tricks up it's sleeve and could still break a weenies heart. But damn, I can't really remember a better setup for WNY. Not for a long time. I'll be pouring over radar, satellite, 700 and 900 temp profiles all night. You too Tim? I still think we could still see some enhancement from the Lake. BuffaloWeather
Could this be our biggest storm in 17 years. Hey maybe we can get some thunder snow. One can only hope I don't think so. 2008 brought 20-30 synoptic inches across WNY. That will be tough to beat, and Rochester has had many big hits from synoptic systems. March 2014 brought 20-22" in Roc Suburbs. And I'm sure I'm missing a few others.
tim123
It's could happen. Lake is very warm and winds do go ne to nw. So I could see it playing a roll in later afternoon as 850s crash
