ShawnEastTN
Looks like that band setting up almost right along 40 is thickening explaining my precip starting here.
1234snow
I'm still concerned about the way the precip is moving in. Yes the front edge might be streaking southeast but the other side is moving on a northeast component. I was hoping for the hole around Nashville to fill in but it hasn't yet. PowellVolz
Looks like that band setting up almost right along 40 is thickening explaining my precip starting here. Yes it is. Don't we need at least some moderate snow to keep the column cold? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Silas Lang
Generally speaking, where in the city are you located? (north, south, university, etc.) I'm about a mile or two west of campus. Got a pretty good view of Buffalo Mountain from my window.

Yeah the snow hole could hurt. Allow slow rise in temps and allow dewpoints to start balancing before the precip moves back in later, after the snow hole passes. Though on the plus side I still have single digit dewpoint and winds still blowing out of the NE.
ladyjmayo
Looks like that band setting up almost right along 40 is thickening explaining my precip starting here. Weird. I am sitting right under that band on I-40 but don't see anything yet. The good news is that temps have been holding steady at 26.2 since around 9 am. John1122
If you look at the base Southern Miss Valley view or the composite view of the Nashville area there is no snow hole. Not sure why the base Nashville radar has it.
ShawnEastTN
Actually if you go to Hytop radar shows the hole filling in. http://www.wunderground.com/weather-radar/united-states/al/hytop/htx/?region=csg
Silas Lang
Awesome, you're likely upstream of me. haha I'll try to send some stuff your way! Still got some stout flurries here. Temp is holding at 26. Clouds look pretty thick, hopefully the temps stay down.

The good news is that temps have been holding steady at 26.2 since around 9 am. You'll get some virga then it should slowly start picking up in intensity over the course of the afternoon if it keeps coming from upstream. That is odd with as close as we are, I barely have any return over me and getting little tiny dry flurries and can hear little tiny sleet pellets. Jed33
Dew points are still pretty low. Single digits to lower teens across the area. I hit 16 this morning, and it's just now 21. The low dp's are a good thing. Just hope rates can keep the column cool enough to avoid sleet and freezing rain.
Silas Lang
Actually have a little sleet mixing in with the flurries here. Saw some pellets bouncing around when I looked out the window.
ShawnEastTN
I really don't want sleet, worried that will be my dominant precip type here but hope with heavier precip and forcing it will start going more toward snow.
John1122
Light snow with some bigger flakes mixed in, by looking at radar business should pick up here in the next 20 or 30 minutes. Temp is 22.
JayCee
As others have noted--and I also just noticed--the radar isn't showing some of the stuff falling in east TN. I just walked outside to see very fine snow falling, or more like graupel or sleet. I could actually hear it hitting the ground. Enough has fallen to put a fine coating down on the car windshield. Wurbus
Getting some very light sleet near Karns now. Temp is about 26 at my house.

Yeah while light, it is sticking. Got a tiny bit on the cars and deck. You can hear it hear as well. Also, it seems the light moisture is helping keep temps down here. Was at 26, now at 24. Blue Ridge
What is falling here is more like graupel than sleet but definitely "pings" when it reaches the surface. ETA: Rimed snowflakes. Matches perfectly. http://www.snowcrystals.com/guide/guide.html

1234snow
HRRR continues its poor runs. This is from 17z. That being said it had my temp being 30 at 1pm and it was 25.
John1122
Mostly virga under the initial heavy returns passing over me. Just a few flakes floating down. Didn't expect that after picking up a good dusting earlier from the snow moving over.

John1122
You can see precip starting to get going in Arkansas and Louisiana, precip is starting to stream out of the Gulf into southern Louisiana. The western areas should be filled back in by late afternoon/early evening.
John1122
That said, I overcame the virga again and now have moderate snow, nickel to quarter sized flakes.
