This strikes me as rather peculiar. Doesn't -30 for example affect peeps in Caribou the same as it does in Raleigh?

I've thought about this before. You could make that argument. You could also say that the peeps in Caribou are much more acclimated and used to the cold than the peeps in Raleigh. Also if you make the criteria the same say -35 for everyone then you would never see a warning south of Maine and vise versa if you make the criteria -10 then you would have warnings up every day in Maine. I think its reasonable how it is laid out... same with WSW. People can handle 1" of snow in Maine but it becomes a disaster in say north Florida.

Wow, -10/-22 now. My record of -17F could fall by morning.

I'll definitely be throwing the pot of boiling water in the outside air tomorrow morning. Never gets old.

I think the coldest core is passing through in the next couple hours and temps will start bottoming out.  Going down 7 more from this point will be hard to do.

To put a BOS record low in perspective...

In the month of February, BOS has only 4 record lows at the Logan airport site...and zero since 1967. This is a really legit airmass. Similarly, in January, BOS had only 5 record lows at the airport site before the January 2004 outbreak...and that month pulled off two new record lows at Logan Airport. If you adjust for the time of the year, this is definitely January 2004-esque...on a raw scale, it might be slightly short but perhaps not when the final lows come in...the duration of that 2nd outbreak in '04 was special though.
