Bob Chill
Is it cold enough aloft for sleet and snow with temps above 40? Temps will quickly drop into the upper 30's after precip starts reaching the ground. It's close to or below freezing @ 3k feet.

Expat
Hmmm... wonder if areas very quickly transition to snow/sleet. Wouldn't be surprised, and then everyone freaks out from Snow/sleet TV in the DC area, causing yet again, another traffic nightmare.
Bob Chill
Hmmm... wonder if areas very quickly transition to snow/sleet. Probably. Depends on how quick the lowest levels can cool. This is the sounding for 7pm on the 18z NAM. Pretty shallow with the above freezing layer.

Bob Chill
There shouldn't be much if any sleet either. Rain or snow. It it might be frustrating with back and forth periods of both for a while before the meaningful changeover. Rate dependent stuff.

Jebman
44/27. Awaiting this broken line of showers just to the south. Then my inch of slop and rimed snow. Followed by about ten days of super COLD. This is a typical, perfect northern VA winter. I'm not greedy. Just give me climo snows. 3-4 inches in Dale City, then give me the week of very cold weather. The way it used to work in Dale City was this: About Jan 8 we would get an arctic front. Then we would get about 6 inches of snow. Then it would stay subfreezing for 7 days. Then it would go back to zonal flow and we were happy. But, no more. Climate change rules --- Embrace it, love it, live it.
