Jed33
Pouring down snow with huge flakes here now. Actually have an inch and a half, and if it keeps up could go higher! I agree that with the snow on the ground, temps could be lower with the Arctic moving in starting tonight.
nrgjeff
Couple more hours for the Tri Cities including Kingsport and maybe another hour MRX, so Noon-1pm, not counting upslope above JC later. Radar echos are accompanied by multi-layer clouds and a BNA sounding moist to 500 mb. Might also explain the sticky wet snow. Moderate snow has locked in cold low levels up there, at least for as long as it is snowing. Wednesday evening over achieved for a similar reason. 12Z Wed sounding was dry as a bone 800-400 mb and exceptionally dry 700 mb. Wed evening sounding dews snapped back close to the temp profile all the way up to 500 mb. Models had the lift but missed the moistening aloft. Wednesday morning could have been more the strength of the little wave or PVA. It was more localized though. Hope everyone enjoyed these light snows! Jed33
Thanks JayCee!! Man, it was ripping there for awhile! Still snowing some, but mostly light

John1122
1.5 inches here, stopped now though. Hopefully the NW flow will fire up here.
JayCee
Congrats 1234Snow. This was a very interesting winter weather event for the area, partly due to the unexpected nature of it. The first band of snow that hit me before daybreak put down a quick half inch. Then, after looking at the upstream radars, I knew a surprise was in the works. Congrats to all that got or are getting snow today. I'm heading out to play...lol Actually, going to clean off the car. But will probably linger outside for awhile and enjoy it. JayCee
1.5 inches here, stopped now though. Hopefully the NW flow will fire up here. When is that actually supposed to start up? I've not been able to pin down a time. This afternoon? Evening? Just having a hard time finding the front on a current weather map, or the leading edge of the colder air. Edit: Just noticed flurries falling here again. Temp hanging at 31.8F.
Jed33
Snow picked back up again to moderate intensity, but this looks like it could be the back edge
JayCee
Sleet pellets and flurries falling here now. Temp at 31.5F. I don't see us hitting 41F as forecasted with the snow pack, unless some serious WAA occurs or the sun comes out.
Blue Ridge
Headed out for coffee, find it ripping in North JC at 33F. Easily 2". May find a ruler and measure when I return to the office.
Silas Lang
Yeah snowing pretty good here in JC. About two inches on grass. It's 33 here so the roads are not completly covered, just in spots. However, looks like some ice and slush on the roads due to rates. Have a glazed donut look. Be safe if traveling!
1234snow
Ended up with 1 and a half inches of snow bringing this winter's total to 12 1/2 inches.
Carvers Gap
Ended up very close to 2". We have been under some decent snow since about 9:00 AM. Still snowing now. Kind of a pleasant surprise. If it can hang around until tonight, going to have some very cold lows this weekend.
John1122
Models are spitting out another 1/2 inch or so from my area over to Bristol and SW VA, with another 1.5-2 in the higher peaks this evening and tonight. There's another piece of energy in Indiana that will work across Kentucky and down into the area, plus NW flow behind the Arctic front.
Silas Lang
31 degrees now and getting some light snow and sleet.
JayCee
Per local mets...the colder air moves in and upslope snow starts sometime this evening. Still only 32 here...so not going anywhere near the high of 41F today. Very little melting has occurred, and since its already 2:30 p.m., it looks like we'll keep our snow cover through most of the weekend. Light sleet and snow continues to fall here. Radar shows very little, but it was falling continuously as I worked to clean my driveway.
John1122
Upslope is going pretty well here. Steady snow and have picked up a heavy dusting on my vehicles that were cleared off.

Blue Ridge
Picked up another dusting overnight, based on what accumulated on our vehicles. I have 2.5" at home in the University area of JC. Frigid as I leave for the office this AM.
