hazwoper Posted January 28, 2016 Share Posted January 28, 2016 Was their a temp inversion at the time? That would help propogate a sonic boom in the atmosphere from what I understand. Also, possible meteorite detonation that wasn't visible? The sonic boom from a meteorite detonation 100km up would not be heard for approximately 5 mins after detonation from what I have read. BBasile Posted January 29, 2016 Share Posted January 29, 2016 I actually heard this at my house earlier today, or rather heard what sounded like a bang on the side of my house. Almost like someone slammed a door. Really didn't think anything of it. However, I highly doubt a sonic boom from at least 50 miles away would shake my house like that. MacChump Posted January 29, 2016 Share Posted January 29, 2016 lived in virginia beach as a kid and i have a very vivid recollection of the house rattling from a sonic boom from one of the f-14s at the airbase there...also remember hearing one of them crash nearby...
