Was their a temp inversion at the time?  That would help propogate a sonic boom in the atmosphere from what I understand.  Also, possible meteorite detonation that wasn't visible?  The sonic boom from a meteorite detonation 100km up would not be heard for approximately 5 mins after detonation from what I have read.

I actually heard this at my house earlier today, or rather heard what sounded like a bang on the side of my house.  Almost like someone slammed a door.  Really didn't think anything of it.  However, I highly doubt a sonic boom from at least 50 miles away would shake my house like that.  

 

I've heard F-16's from the NJ ANG break the sound barrier before from a much closer distance and it never shook anything.  Strange.
