Chinook
Perhaps a long-tracking tornado, seen by storm spotters, near the MS/AL boder. It has been easily identifiable on storm-relative velocity. Some of the correlation (CC) images have shown a TDS (low point in correlation) near Carrollton, meaning there has been debris in the air. -- ...TORNADO EMERGENCY FOR CARROLLTON ALABAMA......A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 530 PM CST FOR CENTRALPICKENS COUNTY... Carvers Gap
Crockett Co reporting damage to several homes and the high school(students were NOT present). Earlier in the day, the admin had made decisions to cancel activities at the school due the forecast for bad storms. Carvers Gap
I am well out in front of the system...but winds have been gusting to 30 at least. The Rotherwood station has been to 16.8, but it is in the valley. Up against Bays Mtn, it is really howling. Math/met as usual is on the money w the mtn wave event. Hope our folks out west are hunkered down.

nrgjeff
Maybe a severe watch to I-75 both Tennessee and Georgia but I am not worried about a tornado watch here overnight. Instability is dropping off and CAPE is only a few hundred J/kg. MLCAPE may be slightly higher. Data is from a UAH University of Alabama Huntsville SWIRLL sounding, so CAPE is even lower up over Tenn. Plus as Math/Met notes an inversion may even develop, lowering CAPE and/or adding CINH. Well, if lightning is close that could make for good loud thunder! Now the same UAH sounding has SRH storm relative helicity readings of several hundred, and 0-3 km CAPE is 95 J/kg - somewhat notable early season overnight. Might be a concern for western Alabama a couple more hours through Midnight. Again, East Tenn and GA are more stable. Area of rain and thunderstorms upstream of East Tenn starting to look benign on radar. Latest SPC mesoscale discussion addresses an old tornado watch, and Alabama concerns, but it does not get into East Tenn or GA. SPC really backed off the evening Outlook here, just 15% wind and 2% tornado Tenn and GA. Now if you live in the lee of the Smoky Mountains tonight could be really fun with mountain wave induced wind!

Runman292
Well, it looks like there won't be any kind of watch issued for East TN. Honestly, I don't see why they even included the plateau in a Tornado Watch earlier. This will just be an isolated Severe threat.
