That is a NESIS rating storm I don't think may ever be broken in our lifetimes.

Boxing Day. Was stuck in Boston during the blizzard. When I came back to NYC there were literally cars stuck in the middle of the street. Didn't go to work for an entire week.

February 2013 (I live where that death band set up and it just puked snow). I'll never forget going up and down middle country road helping people stranded in their vehicles.

We felt the snow for a long time after the boxing day blizzard because Bloomberg didn't plow our local streets.

I'd go with this one. Feb 2013 was awesome but it felt so short because it happened overnight. This one feels never-ending. Daytime blizzards are the greatest.

Yup, I'm old.  Blizzard of '78.   Winter of '78 overall had to be my best.  Lived in CT at the time.  Snowdrifts to the eaves, weeks off from school.  Hartford civic center roof collapsed, schools were closed until roofs could be cleared.

1996 & 2010 I received pretty much the same amount of snow. Obviously 96 is special but that snowicane was something out of this world. Just the orientation of the R/S line was just unreal let alone the insane rates. Not everyday do you have a 972mb monster drive right into SNE. I also had a 20" snowpack leading up to that event. 

 

2011 Halloween bomb is also in my top list of storms. 15" of paste before halloween!

It was my best I believe ...constant snow from 9 pm of the 22nd to 11pm of the 23rd. Everytime I looked it was coming down at a good clip, no stops and starts...stayed in the good banding thru out.

JFK, LGA, EWR all broke records and NYC likely breaks it on the next update.

the snowicane was an incredible storm. If that storm were to happen a few weeks earlier, and had better cold to work with, we'd be talking some mind boggling snow amounts in the immediate metro area. LE's were in the 3-4 inch range. It was almost like one of those storms that crush the mountains out in Sierra. Just absurd amounts of precipitation.

2. 2/13. 30+ inches of snow, didn't see a plow on our street for three days. Got 18 inches in five hours. Heaviest rates I've ever seen.

3. 1996

Honorable mention: 1983, over an hour of constant thundersnow in Westchester, enhanced by psychedelics. The storm that got me into this hobby.

Lots of good storms before the last half of a decade, but the recent ones just seem to pack more of a punch.

1.) Blizzard of 96 (what really got me into following the weather!!)

2.) Boxing Day Blizzard. My location in Essex county got hammered, though I know this one was not nearly as widespread a storm as many others.

3.) December 2000. This one started earlier than forecasted and I remember waking up very early in the morning to 4" per hour snows

Boxing Day. I remember 96, but not well. And while yesterday's storm had higher totals, it didn't have much oomph to it. I don't count Feb 2006 because I got a ticket from a cop; that's the only thing I remember from that one.

This storm was sick I worked 27 hours straight

There is definitely more snow in Manhattan then wantagh I think wantagh was a snow hole. Can't measure now as I wasn't here

Boxing Day no question. The totals were similar to this one but the winds and the lead up tracking wise were unbelievable.

Honorable mention PD II, long duration storm dumped the most I've seen since living in NJ.
