For those that wondered if the criteria would officially be met, here is what CWG just announced:

5:00 p.m. update: BLIZZARD! D.C. has officially met the criteria for a blizzard: Three straight hours with winds gusting over 35 mph, visibility of 0.25 miles or less and snow and blowing snow. At 5 p.m., National Airport, D.C.’s reporting station, observed heavy snow, winds gusting to 37 mph, and visibility of 0.06 miles.

It's just impossible to measure. Gusts up to 40 right on the water = inaccurate measurement.

What are you at?

Having similar problems but just made an attempt...multiple places as free from drifting/blowing as possible: 17.5"

With the winds and compaction I just really do not know, but, best effort.

This afternoon really came though. Getting smoked. +SN BLSN 28F

Love that all of MD/VA is getting in on this now. Totals range from 13-15" down here around the RIC metro with more to come. Total whiteout conditions with yellow bands puking snow left and right. Airport might break it's long streak.

Even here on the west side of Williamsburg by Lightfoot, it's been snowing since 11, fairly heavily for the last couple of hours. I think we might be able to squeeze a couple more hours out of this, it seems like the bands on the western shore of MD and up by the Northern Neck want to keep pivoting down this-a-way
