adelphi_sky
I wish we could be under a yellow band for as long as we've been under this finger of dry air.
EHoffman
That DC dry hole is remarkable in its tenacity. Can't really believe it. DC should bank soon.

EHoffman
I can't really get a good measurement, but I'd say approaching 2 feet in Rockville. Still ripping. Anyone around here confirm measurement?
ohwxguy
It's been such a disappointing mid-late morning and early afternoon here in DC. That damn hole has robbed us of probably a good half foot, maybe more.
snowfan
Sorry, I meant for those of us along 95. You can see here that the stuff to the north is sinking south. And eventually the whole band should shift to the East. http://weather.cod.edu/satrad/nexrad/index.php?type=LWX-N0Q-1-24 I don't see it. Just look. It won't die. http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=dox&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=yes

Disappointing event. Hopefully it is salvaged by some additional accumulation...

Scarlet Pimpernel
I cut 1 strip to the street + the front walk and I'm pooped. I have a lot of work to do over the next couple days. Winds really picking up now. My work will probably end up drifting back in. ugh driveway1.JPG Nice! Hey Bob...how's that one neighbor doing who you saw shoveling a tenth of an inch yesterday afternoon? That was funny! I take it he gave up on that. 09-10 analogy
That blob coming west along rt. 50 ought to hammer DCers pretty good here shortly.
Bob Chill
I had 4.5" in 80 minutes. You do the math. I could see it being much like Feb 11, 2010 Part of the reason that band was so nasty is it was being pushed back up against elevation. As it pulls east it will remain solid but definitely not as intense as what you experienced.
Yeoman
I wonder if there's a way to capture the 24 hr loop as a .gif? http://climate.cod.edu/flanis/nexrad/scripts/mkgif.php?type=LWX-N0Q-

I think DC is good for 5+ more, there's plenty of moisture and you can kinda seem the dry nose getting enveloped. But like, it's kinda looked that way for 2-3 hours, so who really knows. I'm frustrated for DC, glad I went up to Rockville for this.
MacintoshPro
That blob coming west along rt. 50 ought to hammer DCers pretty good here shortly. But it looks only temporary. You can still see that finger of dry air stretching into DC from the bay through AA county.
dukeblue219
The hole has pulled a little further west and it's all but stopped completely (just north of downtown Silver Spring). I can squint and see a faint snowfall of pixie dust. Radar still looks promising in another half hour or so.

That damn hole has robbed us of probably a good half foot, maybe more. Just think there is still a chance that the very last band as the storm leaves could park itself right over DC for 3 hours while everyone else gets to watch. The snow will stop west to east. So, DC east usually gets a parting gift.
Warm Nose
Just finished snow thrower run number three. I get down to pavement but by the time I finish there's another inch so just trying to keep up. Have had no breaks at all since it began yesterday. Stopped measuring at 27" - with the rate it's coming down I might end up with close to 4 feet. We're right up against the eastern side of the BR, so it usually just piles up and dumps with the wind out of the east like this.

Jebman
Those winds are on the increase! Blowing snow is not occasional. Its becoming near steady state. Snow is picking up too.
SomeguyfromTakomaPark
Yeah looking pretty disappointing in the district. Oh well, last night was rocking and we got 16-17 inches without mixing issues and thundersnow. No complaints.
adelphi_sky
But it looks only temporary. You can still see that finger of dry air stretching into DC from the bay through AA county. BUt there's also a blob coming down from Baltimore City. So, I think the finger will get squeezed out in the next half hour or so, then DC can get back to business with accumulating snow. osfan24
Latest HRRR shows another 18-24 outside NYC and has a strip of 12-18 in Central MD and a large area of 10-12. And that's at 10-1 ratio. Is the storm sticking around until midday tomorrow? LOL.
North Balti Zen
Sucks for DC - I was beside myself when that happened at my place from 5 - 7 or so this morning - that sucks. Fat flakes starting back here after a lull - waiting to see if rates return. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
