BTRWx
Long-term radar doesn't show the dry slot filling in. The fact that some people are relying on one model showing unrealistic totals shows desperation (though understandably so). DCA, at least, isn't getting more than 5" additional inches out of this storm. The show is all along the Appalachians. Speak for yourself! eta: About 5" more at dca would break the airport record! gocaps
My most frequent measurement was 27 inches. I'm a few miles north of Summit Point in WV.
Solo2
holy crap! Ha....that was 2 hours and 5-6 inches ago!
Alcoholhelps
Still nothing but light snow at best near Potomac Yard. Not sure about these reports of Heavy around me. I'm about 8 miles south of you off route 1 ...it's starting to pick up a little. Still not impressive.
mitchnick
Finally, after being 5 miles south of the decent stuff, it's moving into mby and snowing hard.
KAOS
It is nice to hear positive vibes being sent out to those of us in the grips of satan's snowhole/dryslot. Thank you.
jacindc
Just really picked up here. Wind is kicking up a lot of snow from the ground, but rates are much better.
Deck Pic
I've picked up 1" maybe 1.5" in the last 6 hours lol....Still a high impact event. I'm reminding myself that 96 flipped and 2003 flipped to driving sleet....Making me feel better...Hoping for another 3-4"
SpringfieldSkins
Had 17" at 9:30 Only have 18" at 12:50. Starting to pick back up though.
WinterWxLuvr
Highest totals I've seen: ... City of Winchester... (VA) Winchester 30.0 1146 am 1/23 public ... Berkeley County... (WV) 1 SW Jones Springs 33.0 1130 am 1/23 trained spotter Some places to the NW of the immediate DC metro are gonna blow past 40". Easily. I think I'll make that number. I would have bet anything that I wouldn't get 30 but that's already in the rear view. Mind boggling.
Stormpc
Completely Blizzard conditions. Vis sbout 1/8 to 0 at times. Puking snow sideways. Radar looks great for all (soon)
vance1167
I'm getting close to 20" now. That's an impressive difference. I wonder what DCA will report. Where exactly in North Arlington?
NovaHoo
16.5" in Fairfax Station. Only 1" since 7 am, but it's picking up nicely now - along with the wind.
NinjaWarrior2
Anne Arundel County Dry Slot looks like it is shrinking, as above, places near BWI are getting back into it. We had a contest for my mothers work saying BWI would get 19"
mitchnick
Yeah. Watching the sun try breaking through the clouds while 20 miles west gets crushed is no fun.Sinking your way now. I'm back in it.
osfan24
All you people saying DC S&E will get snow again are on crack Remember when models kept showing Wes' area getting deathbanded. Yeah, about that......... Short range models weren't really any better than the globals on this storm. They were both pretty good but missed in spots. Scarlet Pimpernel
18.0" as of 11:45AM. Hard to measure, but that's what most of them were so I'll go with that. Winds really brisk; can hear the roaring at the tops of the larger trees so it means business. Stairs around the building have been rendered as ramps of snow. According to radar, looks like where I'm at is right on the edge of the better stuff farther west. Hope the heavier bands gradually progress east as the day goes on. 87storms
you can see on wv there's still plenty of moisture/lift to go and the dry air is shifting slowly east: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/east/eaus/flash-wv.html

WVclimo
Walking around the neighborhood, drifts of 5' are pretty common. It's going to be quite a while before we will be able to get out of here.

Mrs.J
Impossible to measure at this point, but has to be in the 30" range.... I agree with you. Insane amount of snow up here. Am sure to the NW of us there is a lot more.
Scarlet Pimpernel
I feel very certain the banding will make its way into DC/Balt, and if it does I think they could easily pick up another 10". Easily. LOL!! Like the optimism, but that cannot be serious!
