Jebman
I am so enthusiastic for the models again, that I have decided to read all of the four storm tracking threads for the storm, from beginning to end. arlwx
Surrounding obs indicate that DCA was part of the snow hole created by my flamethrower (ha.ha.) MN Transplant
I'm going with 24.0". Matches well with a nearby spotter ob of 24.2". Fell just shy of 2010. I had a ton of precip, so the models did well there. More like 8.5:1 ratios for the whole storm.

EastCoast NPZ
Interesting. Spotter report for E Stephens City was 35.0. That's from a trained spotter. I wonder if he used a board and wiped every 6, or just measured on the ground. I measure on the ground, because - really - what is actually on the ground is the only thing I care about. Don't know if compaction is significant enough to go from 35 inches to my measurements of 27 - 28. Could just be the typical dry hole in my area at work too. Sunny and Warm
Compaction would occur, but I don't think 7 to 8 inches would happen. Maybe 2 or 3 depending on how dry/wet the snow was. It could actually. The ABE (Lehigh Valley) observer at one point yesterday recorded 21.7" of fresh snow with 17" on the ground! The snow in PA likely had higher ratios than down here, so 6-8" compaction isn't out of the question for 35" of snow. imho
gymengineer
I didn't want to say this yesterday, but now that's it over, it's fascinating how similar this storm was to 1/96, right down to the mid-storm light-mixy-lull. Though, in 1/96, the light precip period happened over a greater area than this storm. I'm actually kind of glad the weather board wasn't around back then for one reason: I think I would have enjoyed 1/96 less because I would have been obsessing on here from like 2 pm to 10 pm that day.
